Bara Magma is the Miner-themed Machine Beast of the Machine Empire Baranoia serving Prince Buldont and a supporting antagonist in Chouriki Sentai Ohranger. He served as the main antagonist of the 13th episode and a supporting antagonist in the 33rd episode.
He was voiced by the late Hajime Koseki who also later voiced Mushroom Nezire in Denji Sentai Megaranger and Magdas in Seijuu Sentai Gingaman.
Personality[]
Bara Magma was a determined and passionate miner who would stoo at nothing to complete his task; being completely loyal to Prince Buldont. When forced into battle however, he proved just as brutally efficient and showed an extremely sadistic streak; trying to throw Shouta into lava and laughing maniacally after seeming to kill Johnny.
Biography[]
Past[]
As with all members of the Machine Empire Baranoia, Bara Magma was built by Emperor Bacchus Wrath and Empress Hysteria some 65 million years ago on Planet Baranoia. Along with the rest of the Machine Beasts and the Barlo Soldiers, Bara Magma helped them to devastate and conquer multiple planets.
Ohranger[]
Millions of years later, in 1999, Bacchus Wrath and his Empire return to Earth and launch an invasion of Earth but the Ohrangers arise to oppose them.
After the death of the last elite Machine Beasts from Planet Daradura, Prince Buldont learns that Mount Fuji is a dormant volcano so he sends Bara Magma to draw out the lava so he can flood Tokyo with lava and destroy the UAOH. Bara Magma is first seen digging into Mount Fuji with the help of some Barlo Soldiers before creating a crater big enough to throw an explosive into the magma chamber and get the volcano ready to erupt. When the Ohrangers investigate the strange earthquakes coming from Mount Fuji, Momo ends up stumbling upon the operation so some Takonpas blast her down and Bara Magma confronts her with his Barlo Soldiers. Using his firepower, he is able to demorph her, strip her of her Power Brace and knock her down a cliff where she breaks her ankle so he sends the Barlo Soldiers to kill her. Thanks to the help of a stray dog named Johnny though, Momo evades them so they return to the volcanic cave where Bara Magma meets with Buldont as well as Acha and Kocha to update them.
Once he does, they find Shouta and try to throw him into the magma only for Johnny to intervene by biting Bara Magma and Buldont. Enraged by his son's mauling, Bacchus Wrath has Bara Magma try to kill the dog which he seemingly succeeds in doing. Enraged, Momo morphs and defeats the Barlo Soldiers only to be no match for Bara Magma himself with even her Miracle Chi Kung Shot and Hurricane; Superpower Defensor attacks doing nothing. Before he can kill her though, the Ohrangers arrive and gun him down with their King Blasters. With Bara Magma stunned, they knock him over with a combined jump-kick before summoning the Chouriki Mobiles and completely defeating him with the Giant Roller. However, Acha and Kocha then make him grow so they form Ohranger Robo which is initially too evenly matched with Bara Magma until they shoot him with the Cannon Head just for the monster to immediately return fire. Getting nowhere, they summon the Super Crown Sword which allows them to shrug off an energy laser and cut off the robot on Bara Magma's head before destroying him with the Crown Final Crash.
Later on, after the death of Bara Faucet, Emperor Bacchus Wrath executes his ultimate plan; recreating an army of past Machine Beasts (including Bara Magma) as giants and upgrading them with the Magma Enhancement Program. However, the Ohrangers ultimately penetrate the cave system where the upgrades are taking place and destroy most of the monsters by collapsing the cave on top of them with Bara Magma being among them.
Gaoranger vs Super Sentai[]
Miku of the Megarangers recalls Momo beating down Bara Magma to Sae Taiga of the Gaorangers during a speech about the past fights that other Sentai have had after Lost Highness Duke Rakushaasa makes him lose hope. Miku uses Momo's fight as an example of how past female Sentai Rangers used their talents and disguises to trick and defeat their enemies.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Strength: Bara Magma proves to be stronger than Momo, taking her down with a single slap from his jackhammer and single smacks from it knocked away Ohranger Robo.
- Durability: Bara Magma was able to shrug off multiple punches and kicks from Momo (including one to the face), her Chi Kung Dyanmite and Hurricane Circle Defensor attacks, multiple punches and a kick from Ohranger Robo and the Cannon Head's lasers all without a scratch.
- Sight: Bara Magma can see despite his eyes always being closed.
- Speech: Bara Magma is capable of speech despite not having a mouth.
- Non-Ageing: Due to being a robot, Bara Magma was unable to age.
- Mining: Bara Magma is a very skilled miner, being able to drill holes in Mount Fuji so quickly that he was ready to destroy Angel Grove within the same day that he started.
- Explosive Detonation: Bara Magma was able to make a bomb he threw into the lava explode by the robot on his head slamming down its controls.
- Bara Magma Missiles: Bara Magma can rapidly fire off orange spikes from the machine gun on his right shoulder. These caused large explosions and knocked away Momo.
- Magma Beams: Bara Magma can fire blue lasers from the robot on top of his head strong enough to completely defeat Momo and stagger Ohranger Robo.
Arsenal[]
- Jackhammer: Bara Magma is equipped with a large red jackhammer that could be used as a club or to dig.
- Head Change: Bara Magma can instantly change the head of his jackhammer from a drill bit to a shovel head to switch from drilling to digging or to try and impale Momo with.
- Shockwaves: Bara Magma can stab his jackhammer into the ground to generate a shockwave that passes through the ground and strike down Momo.
- Bullet Blasts: After being enlarged, Bara Magma could fire bullets from the tip of his jackhammer like a machine gun to slam into his enemies.
- Bomb: Bara Magma used a bomb to make Mount Fuji active.
