Bara Tarantula is the Tarantula-themed Machine Beast of the Machine Empire Baranoia serving Acha and Kocha and a minor antagonist in Chouriki Sentai Ohranger, serving as the main antagonist of the 29th episodes.
He is voiced by Yoshio Kawai who previously voiced Skull Doggler in Hikari Sentai Maskman, Baboon Brain in Choujyu Sentai Liveman, Inugami Boma and Dark Spider Bōma in Kousoku Sentai Turboranger, Torarugin, Galactic Ninja Batzlergin, Samejigokugin, Chamelezarugin and PteranoTelevigin in Chikyu Sentai Fiveman, Majin Mu in Choujin Sentai Jetman, Dora Skeleton, Dora Goblin Dora Ladon and Dora Chimera in Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, Oonyuudou and Umibozu in Ninja Sentai Kakuranger and later voices Saboteur Mayden in Mirai Sentai Timeranger and Island Ninja Girigirigaishi in Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger.

Past[]
As with all members of the Machine Empire Baranoia, Bara Tarantula was built by Emperor Bacchus Wrath and Empress Hysteria some 65 million years ago on Planet Baranoia. Along with the rest of the Machine Beasts and the Barlo Soldiers, Bara Tarantula helped them to devastate and conquer multiple planets.
Ohranger[]
Millions of years later, in 1999, Emperor Bacchus Wrath and his Empire return to Earth and launch an invasion of Earth where they rally thier forces but the Ohrangers arise to oppose them.
After the death of Keris, Acha and Kocha open the Achacha School (a combination of their names) and promise children perfect school grades just by dancing. In reality, Bara Tarantula In reality however, they are simply being implanted with transmitters that make them gradually into full supporters of the Baranoia Empire with plans to expand this curriculum until every child in Japan is loyal to Bacchus Wrath. When Shouhei points out how suspicious this is whilst they look after one of the students, Juri goes with Masao to investigate the school in person. When she investigates further into the school, she discovers Acha and Kocha but is injected with a receiver by Bara Tarantula. After growing to his full size, the Machine Beast fights Juri who morphs but he forces her to dance with the transmitter inside her which allows him to overwhelm her. After throwing her outside though, the other Ohrangers appear so he attempts to flee but is shot off a wall by the King Smashers. Although Bara Tarantula escapes, his arms are destroyed so he gets new and stronger yellow ones whilst also upgrading his controlling abilities.
The next day, Bara Tarantula hides with Acha and Kocha in a storage room within the exercise hall of Masao's school as he takes a test but the Ohrangers have been watching nearby and trace the signal to the Baranoian location. After Goro kicks down Acha, Bara Tarantula ambushes them and knock them from the school but is soon knocked down by Yuji before they morph. Despite being outnumbered though, Bara Tarantula gains the upper-hand and fries Yuji and Momo but Riki shows up and stabs him the mouth with the King Stick; destroying the electrocuting bugs. With Bara Tarantula crippled, the Ohrangers shrug off an energy blast and use the Ole Bazooka to knock the Machine Beast out. Acha and Kocha then enlarge Bara Tarantula so they summon Ohranger Robo which overwhelms the Machine Beast but it is disabled by a net so Goro summons Red Puncher but the same happens and both are zapped. Before Bara Tarantula can destroy them though, Riki summons King Pyramidder which destroys the nets; freeing the Giant Robos before they form King Pyramidder Battle Formation and kill the Machine Beast with the Super Legend Beam.
Personality[]
Bara Tarantula is a very cunning Machine Beast, eagerly helping Acha and Kocha in their plan to make children smarter and control them. He is also very sadistic, revelling in his bugs torturing Yuji and Momo as well as knocking around Ohranger Robo and Red Puncher. Despite everything, Bara Tarantula could only cower before King Pyramidder Battle Formation and made no attempt to prevent his death.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Strength: Whilst Juri was forced to dance, Bara Tarantula was able to knock her around by swinging his arms as well as pick up and throw her from a window. He could also grab and throw Yuji and Shouhei out a window as well as smack five Ohrangers out of the air and grab and toss Juri away. When giant, Bara Tarantula was able to send Red Puncher rolling over to Ohranger Robo with one kick.
- Durability: Bara Tarantula was unhurt by multiple kicks and punches from both the Ohrangers and Ohranger Robo, being stabbed in the mouth by the King Stick and even being shot by all King Smashers destroyed his arms but otherwise did not hurt him.
- Depth Perception: Bara Tarantula has depth perception despite having eight eyes.
- Agility: Bara Tarantula can jump fast enough to avoid a kick from Juri.
- Receiver Injection: Bara Tarantula's signature ability where he can place small receivers in people by injecting them with a needle from his mouth.
- Receiver Control: Bara Tarantula can control small receivers that he injects into people and take control of them.
- Enhanced Control: After having his legs destroyed and being forced to retreat, Bara Tarantula's receiver control is enhanced greatly. After the upgrade, by implanting a miniature spider in the room, the Machine Beast can talk into a microphone to give people answers (like he did with Masao on his test).
- Receiver Control: Bara Tarantula can control small receivers that he injects into people and take control of them.
- Skilled Fighter: Bara Tarantula is a skilled fighter, being able to fight and temporarily overwhelm five Ohrangers at once. Even when faced with Juri and her Twin Batons, the Machine Beast was still able to defeat her.
- Accuracy: Bara Tarantula can be extremely accurate, being able to hit Red Puncher out of mid-air with his net even as it flew at him.
- Teleportation: Bara Tarantula instantly disappeared after being shot off a building.
- Shrinkage: Bara Tarantula can shrink down to the size of a real spider and looks exactly like a normal spider when he does.
- Web Ejection: Like real spiders, whilst tiny sized, Bara Tarantula can fire webbing from his abdomen.
- Enlargement: Bara Tarantula can also grow larger again by fading in and out of existence. He could go to both a much larger spider form and his true form.
- Stickiness: Being spider-based, Bara Tarantula can stick to any solid surface with his legs.
- Bug Spit: Bara Tarantula can spew small black spider-like bots that can latch onto his enemies' face and electrocute them. They also served to blind his enemies and leave them open to attack.
- Web Spit: When giant, Bara Tarantula can fire net-like webs from his mouth which are strong enough to disable Ohranger Robo and Red Puncher instantly as well as knock the latter out of the air.
- Web Electrocution: After tying up Ohranger Robo, Bara Tarantula electrocuted it to further weaken the Giant Robo.
- Energy Blasts: Bara Tarantula can fire a powerful wave of blue lightning from his eyes capable of knocking back Ohranger Robo and Red Puncher with one hit.
Weaknesses[]
- Mouth: Stabbing Bara Tarantula in the mouth, like the King Stick did, immediately defeated his electrocuting bugs.
Arsenal[]
- Spider Legs: Although he lacks weapons of his own, being spider-themed, Bara Tarantula has six legs with four that he can use to clobber his enemies. Initially red and black, his legs are later replaced by yellow ones after his originals are destroyed by the King Smashers.
- Leg Pincers: Each of Bara Tarantula's six legs are tipped with razor sharp pincers which he can use to cut into his enemies.
- Energy Blasts: Bara Tarantula can spread out all four of his upgraded legs and fire a red-orange energy wave from all of his pincers. This was powerful enough to knock down all six Ohrangers with one hit.
- Leg Pincers: Each of Bara Tarantula's six legs are tipped with razor sharp pincers which he can use to cut into his enemies.
