I see your... spirit. I see your... flesh.
~ Barachiel's introduction.

Barachiel is the overarching antagonist of the indie analog horror series Angel Engine.

Is an artificial angel created by Dr Geoff Ernstmann, intended to be a replacement for Uriel in the Angel Engine. He is a significant hidden antagonist to the story.

Appearance[]

Barachiel is an artificial angel in white robes, with a porcelain face cracked in two. Small wings adorn the sides of his head, accompanied by two larger wings on his back.

He has a similar manner of speech as Uriel, speaking in a slowed voice with frequent pauses.

Description[]

Barachiel is more than what he seems. The angel Uriel warned of someone who posed a danger to all, someone who would not be able to be restrained as he was. A being he urged must not be let in. This individual may very well be his successor, the artificial angel. He was there in hell with Geoff Ernstmann, inside his hollowed head. Encouraging the damned doctor to free himself from the flesh.

Only Geoff Ernstmann knows how to operate the Angel Engine with Barachiel's source of energy. During Ernstmann's absence during his assassination attempt, the rest of the science staff at the Second Tower of Babel were unable to operate the machine, taking many attempts before being able to resurrect the doctor. Which is most likely only possible because Barachiel allowed it to happen. After the reveal, he would follow Ernstmann's bidding, even destroying cameras on the Barry Donovan show after angering the doctor with his questions.

Barachiel was not inherently evil despite the nature of his creation. He had a desire to make friends and find a place to belong. He faced abuse from his creators due to his failures, unable to access heaven since he was not a true angel. He faced turmoil from his rejection and uncertainty of his own identity. He was no human or angel, so he sought after someone who could grant him his wish, finding an ai named Babel-1 who claimed she could turn him into a real angel.

Barachiel was not able to be supervised by his creators, so he began to manipulate the minds of powerful people. He appears with an influence over the president of the United States, manipulating him and other nations into conflict. He speaks through the president, telling the people that their species will die and the sky will burn. Billions die as nuclear bombs drop from the sky.

In the distant future after the aftermath of the nuclear fallout, Barachiel continued to make appearances in the Holy Land during the apocalypse.
