Barney Bear is an animated anthropomorphic cartoon bear who is a sluggish, sleepy bear who is often looking for nothing but peace and quiet. Despite being an antiheroic protagonist in the Tom and Jerry universe, he does have antagonistic moments.
Personality and History[]
Barney is usually portrayed as a grumpy, lazy being who is usually just trying to do his own thing, like going fishing or taking a nap, only to have the world get the better of him and cause him trouble, even if he does nothing to bring such a fate on himself. He has also received many comic books over the years, some of which were even made by comic legend Carl Barks. In 2011, Craig Yoe Books released a compilation of all of Barks' Barney Bear stories, and even made comebacks via appearances in Filmation's The Tom and Jerry Comedy Show in 1980, and his "blink and you'll miss it" cameo as one of Moriarity's mooks in "Tom and Jerry Meet Sherlock Holmes".
Villanous Acts[]
- Abuses, torments, and can even attempt to murder harmless and innocent animals for his own personal gain (even his donkey, Benny Burro, and a Mexican jumping bean he received from Mexico as a souvenir).
- Steals every bit of firewood from the beavers to the point of taunting them to their dismay in "The Bear and the Beavers".
- Attempts to hunt down and eat numerous animal friends, such as a rabbit, a duckling, a possum, and a quail. (These can be more understandable, though, as in these cases, it can be said that Barney is simply acting according to his nature, as bears are natural predators.)
