Barney Dawson is the main antagonist of Tanya Tucker's song "No Man's Land".
Biography[]
Barney Dawson was "a fool" living in Bushcreak, Georgia, near the protagonist Molly Marlo. Like all the other men in town Barney lusted after the beautiful Molly. One Sunday morning he attacked her while she was walking home from church and brutally raped her. He then walked away laughing as she lay on the ground crying.
Years later Barney was in prison dying in agony from an unspecified disease. When a nurse from Millards Clinic arrived to treat him, he realized with shock that it was Molly Marlo. He begged her to forgive him and give him his medicine, but she refused and walked away, leaving him to die.
