Baron Ashura is the secondary antagonist of the anime Mazinkaiser. They are the right-hand of Dr. Hell who frequently lead mechanical beasts in attacking the Photon Power Laboratory. Unlike other incarnationd, this version of Baron Ashura is the only named minion of Dr. Hell, as Brocken and Pygman didn't exist in the series. At the final battle, Baron Ashura offered themselves to be built into the Hell King Gordon mechanical beast as their final attempt to take down Mazinkaiser.
Their male side was voiced by Hidekatsu Shibata, while the female side was voiced by the late Haruko Kitahama.
Personality[]
Baron Ashura is furiously loyal to Dr. Hell, and would do anything to serve their master, even willing to throw away their life for Dr. Hell. They are also shown to be cunning, as they disguised themselves as Professor Yumi to sneak into the Photon Power Laboratory and sending the assassin Gamia Q androids. However, despite being a cunning being, Baron Ashura truly liked the Gamia Q androids, seeing them as his daughters.
Biography[]
It is unknown what is the background of Baron Ashura, however, it can be presumed that their background is the same as other incarnation of Baron Ashura, where they were originally a pair of mummies discovered by Dr. Hell, who then resurrected them and fused them together. They then went on to serve Dr. Hell, as they then had been leading mechanical beasts to attack the Photon Power Laboratory and fighting against Koji Kabuto and his Mazinger Z and Tetsuya Tsurugi in his Great Mazinger.
At some point, during an attack of Photon Power Laboratory, Baron Ashura leads a swarm of mechanical beasts to swarm the Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger. They were overwhelmed by the mechanical beasts, and Ashura even managed to send Koji flying in the Hover Pilder. With that, Baron Ashura captured the Mazinger Z and took it back to Hell Castle, the fortress of Dr. Hell, where Dr. Hell repaired the Mazinger Z while renaming it to Ashura Mazinger and gave it to Baron Ashura for the next attack on the Photon Power Laboratory. Ashura combatted Tetsuya and overpowered him, however, before he could finish him off, Koji returned in the Mazinkaiser and scrapped the Ashura Mazinger, forcing Baron Ashura to retreat in defeat.
After getting scolded by Dr. Hell for losing the Mazinger, Baron Ashura once again attacked the Photon Laboratory, trying to kill Koji before he could get used to the control of Mazinkaiser. Due to Koji still being unable to control the Mazinkaiser, Sayaka in her Aphrodite A and Boss in his Boss Borot were sent to combat Ashura and their mechanical beasts, only to be defeated with Ashura capturing Sayaka as the Aphrodite A was heavily damaged. Koji then rushed to the scenes, as Ashura blackmailed Koji in giving the Mazinkaiser up. Koji pretended to give it up, only to attack Ashura instantly after they released Sayaka. With the mechanical beasts once again taken out, Ashura was forced to retreat.
Back in Hell Castle, Ashura told Dr. Hell that while the Mazinkaiser is powerful, its pilot, Koji is still just a human who could be killed easily. With that, Dr. Hell gave Ashura the Damdam L2 mechanical beast to attack the Photon Power Laboratory, while Ashura sent three Gamia Q killer androids to kill Koji. However, Koji managed to outsmart and destroy all of the Gamia Q androids, and swearing to avenge their "daughters", Ashura swore to kill Koji. Despite this, Koji, with the help of the Boss Borot and Sayaka in her Venus A, the Damdam L2 was taken out and Ashura fled.
Later, Dr. Hell gave Ashura the mechanical beast Crocodiver 01. When Sayaka went to an underwater cave to investigate the rumors of a monster, Ashura had the Crocodiver show up and capture Sayka and the Venus A while defeating Boss Borot. They then had Sayaka to be taken into the underwater fortress Bood, where Ashura held Sayaka as hostage. Ashura then captured Koji who went in to save Sayaka, but failed to notice Boss who freed them before Ashura could kill them. Ashura then ordered the Crocodiver to attack the Mazinkaiser once Koji piloted it, despite of their minion's protest. The fight between Crcocodiver and Mazinkaiser and Venus A then damaged Bood, and after the Crocodiver was taken out, it was destroyed by Koji and Sayaka from the inside, forcing Ashura to once again retreat, much to Dr. Hell's frustration.
Later, when Baron Ashura wanted to report to Dr. Hell, they found out that their master had gone missing, as he went to investigate the ruins of Bardos Island to look for the powerful Ghost Mechanical Beasts. Believing that they had been abandoned, Ashura sent his squad to ambush Professor Yumi, later disgusising as him to destroy the Photon Power Laboratory and blowing its power grid up. However, due to "Professor Yumi" acting out of character during his birthday party, Ashura's cover were blown as Koji and his friends saw through it. Ashura then sent the Toros D7 mechanical beast to attack Mazinkaiser and the Photon Power Laboratory, only for it to be dispatched as well. Ashura was then escorted away by by an Iron Mask sent by Dr. Hell, who angrily threw Ashura in prison for their repeated failures.
Dr. Hell then sent the Ghost Mechanical Beast to attack Mazinkaiser and nearly destroyed it, only to be foiled by Tetsuya. Learning that even Dr. Hell was unable to destroy the Mazinkaiser, Baron Ashura escaped from their prison and asked their master to make them stronger, as they offered their body to become the control unit of Hell King Gordon, the ultimate mechanical beast. Dr. Hell, respecting their loyalty, granted their wish and had them and a few Iron Masks implanted into the Hell King Gordon. As Koji landed the Mazinkaiser on Hell Castle to confront Dr. Hell, he released the Hell King Gordon to destroy it. With the sheer power of Hell King Gordon, Ashura overpowered the Mazinkaiser, but before they could win, Koji was able to unleash the true power of Mazinkaiser with the Kaiser Blade and turned the tide against Baron Ashura. In the end, the Hell King Gordon was sliced apart, and Baron Ashura apologized for their final failure as they perished in the ensuing explosion.
