~ AMC's official description of Broadmore. |
Broadmore, better known as Baron Broadmore, is a minor antagonist in the AMC series Into the Badlands.
He is one of the Barons that rules in the apocalyptic wastelands known as the Badlands. He controls the Narwhal Territory, which makes him the Baron of weapons manufacturing. He is the most militaristic of the Barons, and wants to maintain order in the Badlands and not disrupt their current way of life.
He was portrayed by Jonathan Ryan.
Personality[]
Broadmore is shown to be the most brutish of the Barons, focused on the production of weaponry in the Badlands, not wanting to change the status quo of how it operates in any way. As such, the Widow does not even attempt to gain his vote during the Conclave, as she knows there is no way he will vote for her due to her desire to end the Cog slave trade, one of the foundations of the Badlands. Despite this, Broadmore is stated to have gone to great lengths to protect his wives and daughters during the conflict with the Widow and Quinn, suggesting that he did care deeply for his family unlike other Barons such as Juliet Chau who only respected them for their abilities.
Biography[]
After the presumed death of Baron Quinn and Baron Jacobee, Quinn's son Ryder takes credit for their deaths and becomes the ruler of both territories. Due to the oil fields in Quinn's territory being stolen from the Widow, she attacks Ryder's oil refineries in order to get them back. In response to this, Ryder calls a Conclave where all Barons including Broadmore meet in order to discuss the issue without resorting to war. Due to the potential for a war to start, Broadmore has his wives and daughters put in a secluded cabin guarded by his Clippers before attending the Conclave. During the meeting, the Widow and Ryder both make their cases for why they should be given control of the oil fields, with the Widow promising to stop sheltering runaway Cogs should the Barons vote for her and Ryder making the case that the Widow has no interest in preserving their way of life. Broadmore votes for Ryder, alongside Baron Chau, Baron Hassan, and Ryder himself. Broadmore then declares the Widow be stripped of her rank, but the Conclave is suddenly interrupted by the arrival of Quinn, who is actually alive despite Ryder claiming to have killed him. Him and his forces attack all of the present Barons, prompting everyone to flee. After this, Quinn and the Widow make an alliance to kill the other Barons, and Quinn kills Broadmore alongside his wives and daughters, presenting their heads to the Widow in exchange for her killing Baron Hassan. The Widow is angered by Quinn killing Broadmore's family as they were innocent, but Quinn states that nobody stays innocent forever, and the Widow ultimately keeps working with Quinn despite this. After Quinn's death at the hands of Sunny, Broadmore's territory is absorbed into the Widow's.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Martial Arts/Knifemanship: As a Baron, Broadmore would have been one of the most exceptional warriors in all of the Badlands, and was shown capable of killing several of Quinn's Clippers during their attack on the Conclave. Unlike other Barons, Broadmore did not use swords in combat, instead utilizing spiked brass knuckles so that he could rely on his hand-to-hand combat skills in battle.
- Leadership: Broadmore is stated to have been the most militaristic of the Barons, being in charge of weapons manufacturing and was capable of brokering order between feuding Barons in order to prevent wars from starting.
Trivia[]
- The spikes of Broadmore's brass knuckles are crafted to resemble narwhal horns, befitting the name of his territory.
