Hassan is weak and generally goes along with the majority when making key decisions about the future of the Badlands.
~ AMC's official description of Hassan.

Hassan, better known as Baron Hassan, is a minor antagonist in the AMC series Into the Badlands.

He is one of the Barons that rules in the apocalyptic wastelands known as the Badlands. He controls the Peacock Territory, which makes him the Baron of textiles. He is the weakest and most cowardly of all the Barons, generally caving to the other Barons decisions regardless of his own opinions so as to stay in power.

He was portrayed by Alan Wai.

Personality[]

Hassan is shown to be the most weak-willed of all the Barons, as evidence by his decision during the Conclave. The Widow does not attempt to convince him to vote for her, because she knows that he will go along with the majority, instead attempting to convince Baron Chau to do so, knowing that if she does Hassan will follow suit. This is despite the fact that Hassan actually disagreed with Ryder's claim to the oil fields, meaning he thinks the Widow should have them, but isn't willing to go against the other Barons. He is also quite foolish as seen by when he attacked the Widow during the Conclave even after the arrival of Quinn, who was a much bigger threat in that situation.

Biography[]

After the presumed death of Baron Quinn and Baron Jacobee, Quinn's son Ryder takes credit for their deaths and becomes the ruler of both territories. Due to the oil fields in Quinn's territory being stolen from the Widow, she attacks Ryder's oil refineries in order to get them back. In response to this, Ryder calls a Conclave where all Barons including Hassan meet in order to discuss the issue without resorting to war. Hassan does not agree with Ryder absorbing Jacobee's territory and therefore effectively controlling two territories at once, and even thinks that the Widow does have a claim to the oil fields since they belonged to the Widow's husband before she killed him. However, he is likely to vote with the majority, prompting the Widow to try and gain Baron Chau's support, as she knows Hassan will most likely go along with her vote. During meeting itself, the Widow and Ryder both present cases for their claim to the oil fields, and Chau ultimately votes in favor of Ryder alongside Baron Broadmore and Ryder himself, prompting Hassan to do the same. Before the Barons can take action against the Widow, the Conclave is suddenly crashed by the arrival of Quinn, who has actually been alive in hiding. Him and his forces then begin attacking all of the Barons, and despite the threat of Quinn, Hassan decides to try and fight the Widow, but is ultimately overpowered and nearly killed, only being saved by the intervention of his Regent. Hassan manages to escape the Conclave alive, but his territory is later invaded by the Widow, who has formed an alliance with Quinn to kill the other Barons. After being disarmed, Hassan tells the Widow he will support her if she lets him live, but she says that he had his chance to support her at the Conclave, and proceeds to cut off his head and delivers it to Quinn.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Martial Arts/Swordsmanship: While Hassan is described as the weakest of the Barons, he was still proficient enough in combat to temporarily hold his own against the Widow and kill several of Quinn's Clippers in order to escape from the attack on the Conclave.
  • Leadership: Despite being weak-willed, Hassan was capable of running his territory effectively when not amidst wartime, to the point that the Widow did actually want him to support her, suggesting that had he been willing to side with her during the Conclave he may have been a valuable ally.

Trivia[]

  • According to Wren, the Cogs that work in his textile mills are referred to as Spider Cogs.
