| ~ Jacobee |
Jacobee, better known as Baron Jacobee, is a supporting character in the AMC series Into the Badlands.
He is one of the Barons that rules in the apocalyptic wastelands known as the Badlands. He controls the Pickaxe Territory, which makes him the Baron of gold and mining. He is one of the more pragmatic Barons, and was willing to work with other Barons if he believed they could both benefit each other.
He was portrayed by Edi Gathegi, who also played Laurent in Twilight.
Personality[]
Jacobee showed himself to be perhaps the most reasonable Baron other than Baron Rojas, and was willing to both break the previous alliances made with his father or make new ones if he felt it was in the interest of him and his territory. Baron Quinn himself stated that while the other Barons disliked him, he knew Jacobee would be the most likely candidate to aid him in his conflict with the Widow. Even after Jacobee told Quinn he would have to deal with the Widow on his own, he made it clear that if he succeeded that Jacobee would be willing to work with him again in the future. However, Jacobee was not aware of his Regent Zypher was working against him behind his back, showing he may have been easy to manipulate.
Biography[]
Parlay with Quinn[]
After having inherited his Barony from his father, Jacobee began to reassess his allies. During the growing conflict between the newest Baron, the Widow, and Quinn, Jacobee's Regent Zypher is contacted by Quinn's Regent Sunny who explains that Quinn wishes to parlay with Jacobee to discuss how they can help each other in working against the Widow. Zypher relays this information to Jacobee, who agrees to the parlay, which is set in a cemetery. Jacobee and Quinn both meet each other there, accompanied by their Regents and several Clippers. Quinn asks that Jacobee take his side against the Widow, citing his previous alliance with Jacobee's father. Jacobee explains that his father never actually liked Quinn, and their allegiance was only pragmatic. Jacobee blames Quinn for the conflict with the Widow, as it was originally started by Quinn taking her oil fields. Before the two can discuss any further, Quinn is attacked by the surprise arrival of Tilda, the Widow's Regent. Tilda throws one of Jacobee's weapons at Quinn, tricking Quinn into believing that Jacobee was trying to have him killed. This causes a fight to break out between the two groups, with most of the Clippers being killed. Sunny pursues Tilda, and realizes she serves the Widow, prompting him to pick up one of the Widow's signature butterfly throwing stars, and show it to Jacobee, ending the conflict. Jacobee understands that Quinn was not responsible for the fight, but makes it clear that he will not work with Quinn unless he deals with the Widow himself, as he started the conflict with her to begin with.
Ambush and death[]
Jacobee is eventually contacted by the Widow, who reveals that Quinn's son Ryder is looking to take the Armadillo Territory from his father. Jacobee agrees to help ambush Quinn, and he, Zypher, and Ryder meet in the open marketplace near Quinn's fort with the intention to attack and kill him. Unknown to Jacobee, his Regent Zypher plans to kill him as well, with Ryder and Zypher taking Quinn and Jacobee's Barony for themselves. Quinn does arrive at the marketplace, but he has caught onto what is happening, and has brought a boy named M.K. with him. Quinn is not shocked to see Jacobee and Zypher, as he assumed the Widow had sent them to kill him, however he is taken aback to see Ryder. Quinn attempts to talk everyone down, saying that the Widow is the one who wants this conflict, and she is their real enemy, not him. Jacobee rebuffs this, as he has learned of Quinn's tumor, and cites it as a reason why Quinn has become unstable and can no longer be trusted as a Baron. Quinn, aware that M.K. has a dark power known as the Gift which activates when he is cut, takes out his knife and slices M.K. in the shoulder. M.K. then completely decimates Jacobee in combat, throwing him into a nearby building and killing him. M.K. also kills Zypher, with Quinn being fatally stabbed by Sunny, who has betrayed him, leaving Ryder as the only survivor. Following these events, Ryder takes credit for the death of Quinn and Jacobee, and absorbs the Pickaxe Territory into the Armadillo Territory, ruling them both.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Martial Arts/Swordsmanship: As a Baron, Jacobee was exceptionally skilled in combat. During their fight in the cemetery, Jacobee showed himself to be capable of matching Quinn in battle, and indicated that he may have been able to defeat him during the ambush had they not been interrupted by M.K. using his Gift.
- Leadership: Following the death of his father, Jacobee was able to assume the position from him without issue, and led the Pickaxe Territory successfully until his death.
Trivia[]
- The official AMC website described Jacobee's character as being determined to escape his father's shadow, although this attribute of his character was never depicted on screen.
- Jacobee is the only Baron outside of the Chau family that is stated to have inherited his Barony from a parent rather than claiming it from a previous Baron.
