Owing to a bit of shared history, Rojas is perhaps The Widow’s most likely ally among the other Barons.
~ AMC's official description of Rojas.

Rojas, better known as Baron Rojas, is a minor antagonist in the AMC series Into the Badlands.

He is one of the Barons that rules in the apocalyptic wastelands known as the Badlands. He controls the Grasshopper Territory, which makes him the Baron of agriculture. In comparison to the other Barons, Rojas is more reasonable as he is willing to be faithful to his previous alliances, but he is still interested in maintaining the oppressive and brutal status quo of the Badlands.

He was portrayed by Ivo Canelas.

Personality[]

Rojas is perhaps the most reasonable Baron, being the only Baron to vote for the Widow having a claim to the oil fields, in comparison to the other Barons who voted against her due to her wanting to end the Cog slave trade even though she was the rightful owner of the oil fields. His wife also sent a Gift to Baron Quinn after he announced his marriage to Jade, a Cog, whereas the other Barons disapproved of him marrying a Cog, suggesting Rojas may not share the same prejudice against Cogs as the other Barons. Despite all of this, Rojas was still willing to fight against the Widow after she lost the vote at the Conclave, showing he was still interested in maintaining the Cog slave trade and general way of the Badlands.

Biography[]

At some point prior to the series, Rojas had some sort of familiarity with the Widow, where the two worked together and formed an alliance. When Quinn announced that he would be marrying a Cog woman named Jade, Rojas' wife sent a rare blood orange to them as a Gift, in contrast to the other Barons who did not send anything due to them being against the idea of a Baron marrying a Cog. Months later, after the presumed death of Quinn and Baron Jacobee, Quinn's son Ryder takes credit for their deaths and becomes the ruler of both territories. Due to the oil fields in Quinn's territory being stolen from the Widow, she attacks Ryder's oil refineries in order to get them back. In response to this, Ryder calls a Conclave where all Barons including Rojas meet in order to discuss the issue without resorting to war. During the meeting, the Widow and Ryder both present their arguments for why they should control the oil fields, and Rojas is the only Baron to vote in favor of the Widow. After she loses the vote, the other Barons strip her of her rank and all draw their weapons to fight the Widow, including Rojas. Before anything can happen, Quinn crashes the Conclave, revealing he is actually alive and wants to kill the other Barons. Everyone flees from Quinn and his forces, with Rojas and his Regent successfully getting away. Quinn and the Widow eventually form an alliance to take down the other Barons, but they do not kill Rojas. Despite this, Rojas eventually dies through unknown means.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Martial Arts/Swordsmanship: As a Baron, Rojas would be a highly skilled warrior, and was shown capable of wielding two blades at once, which were concealed in his cane. While it is unknown how he died, his head is not presented by Quinn or the Widow during their alliance, suggesting he was stronger than Broadmore and Hassan who were both killed quickly.
  • Leadership: As a Baron, Rojas would have to manage an entire territory and Clipper force, and was able to maintain an alliance with the Widow, who generally refused to work with other Barons.

Trivia[]

  • It is unknown how Rojas' died, but it is known he died sometime between the alliance between Quinn and the Widow and the war between the Widow and Baron Chau. It is possible he was killed by the Widow as despite supporting her he was still willing to fight against her after her loss of the vote at the Conclave, but it is more likely he was killed by Chau as the Grasshopper Territory was absorbed into the Fox Territory following his death.
