Baron Zebek is a minor antagonist in the second volume of the Alpha Flight series, serving as the main antagonist of the 2 part crossover with the Micronauts series. He is a maniacal tyrant who wants to force the entire Microverse to a Draconian rule through a style not seen since the days of Baron Karza, having already conquered the entire city of Antica.
Personality[]
Baron Zebek is a ruthless lunatic idolizing the evil of Baron Karza, modelling himself after him as he is fanatically inspired by his ruthless and bloodthirsty nature, seeking to become the next tyrant that enslaves the Microverse. Unlike Karza, Zebek is more manipulative, having gas lighted and deceived the entire population of Antica and all those oppressed that what all he is doing are good actions for their welfare. Like Karza, he is a massive megalomaniac, discontent with the power he has conquering Antica when he is set off trying to conquer the rest of the Microverse and enforce a draconian rule onto it. Like Karza, he does not take defeat that lightly and as a tantrum seeks to make a final spiteful move against the heroes, having the Quarkillion bomb launched and wipe out billions of lives because he couldn't accept that his power over Antica is lost.
Biography[]
Baron Zebek is a human conqueror residing in the Homeworld. Inspired by the bloodthirsty tyrant that forced the entire Microverse under a reign of terror, Baron Karza, Zebek seeks to follow his footsteps and become the same tyrant like him to satisfy his own lust for power, bringing back Karza's style of evil to the Microverse and conquer it entirely. Invading the city of Antica in the Jungle Zone, Zebek conquers the city using his army, causing multiple slaughters to threaten the entire population to either be enslaved or die out, to which the entire race of Insectivorids become his slaves. Baron Zebek restarts the Body Banks, tearing apart the Insectivorids and other disloyal citizens to provide raw materials to replenish the bodies of himself and those of Zebek's choosing, while hosting gladiator games to have the Insectivorids fight each other to the death, all while gas lighting the entire race and the rest of his subjects that all of this is done for their good.
Zebek first appears greeting the Alpha Flight, posing as a benevolent ruler. Politely chatting with them, Zebek takes them to see his gladiator games, where he enjoys himself seeing the carnage but horrifying the Alpha Flight. He then hosts a banquet in their name but due to being uncomfortable by the barbaric games, the team had to leave early. They then meet up with the Micronauts who seek to inspire the local population to rebel against their tyrannical ruler. However Zebek encounters them, forcing the Micronauts and Alpha Flight to leave. As the team splits up, one half goes to inform the population of the tyrant Zebek truly is and to inspire a rebellion to storm the entire palace.
The other half infiltrate one of Zebek's labs to disarm the Quarkarion, a weapon of mass destruction Zebek has built to conquer the Microverse. There he faces off against Commander Articurus Rann, who informs him his people have abandoned him while Zebek retorts they will simply be fodder for all those who bow down to him. Zebek then nearly chokes Rann to death but the Guardian uses his powers to disrupt the electromagnetic force holding him together, defeating him. Unwilling to lose, Zebek orders the Quarkarion launched to wipe out all life on Antica and billions more across several planets but his scientist refuses, seeing the monster he truly is. Zebek now lays defeated and overthrown, where he is handed over to be repurposed into a full horse so he can finally serve his society.
