Barricade is a Decepticon police officer and a minor villainous protagonist of Transformers: War for Cybertron games. Barricade was willing to taunt and demoralize anyone, whether they be Autobots or Decepticons, using his speed to lure his opponents to their doom.

He was voiced by long time voice actor Steve Blum.

Biography

Exodus

Before the war, Barricade ran the day-to-day events of Megatron's gladiatorial ring/revolutionary movement/emerging army. When Orion Pax came to Kaon for his first face-to-face meeting with Megatron, Barricade and Lugnut "greeted" him at the entrance to their headquarters. Throughout Orion's tour of the headquarters, Barricade followed and got lippy with the archivist, but was rather curtly cut off by Megatron.

During the war on Cybertron, Barricade had several partners, including Howlback, Garboil, and Nightstalker, before they all requested transfers to other precincts.

War for Cybertron

Barricade was part of Megatron's crew during the assault on Trypticon Station, to seize the legendary Dark Energon aboard. Barricade piloted a Decepticon Star Cruiser alongside Brawl, and while battling the neutral, he asked Megatron if he was certain the Dark Energon was at the station, before ramming the Cruiser into the station on Megatron's orders. Barricade accompanied Megatron and Brawl into the station and fought their way through the station, batting hordes of the neutral guardian Starscream's soldiers.

Barricade expressed doubts that Dark Energon was everything Megatron believed it to be, and also that the station was totally old and decrepit, noting in particular the large number of cubic crates, to which Megatron said he had plans to upgrade the station. Barricade further asked him what made him so certain he could control the Dark Energon, to which Megatron explained that only he, as the strongest could control such power.

Megatron was getting annoyed by this point, and told Barricade not to question him again. Barricade obeyed, and despite his scepticism, helped Megatron secure the supply of Dark Energon. After Megatron gained control of the Dark Energon, Barricade's scepticismwas silenced after he and Brawl were infused with its power. Barricade would later journeyed with the rest of the Decepticons to Cybertron's core, watching as Megatron corrupted the core.

Timelines

After Megatron and Optimus Prime's forces had left Cybertron, Barricade was left as a member of Decepticon law enforcement. Here, he took on Frenzy as his partner, and found a kindred spirit with the Deployer. Barricade made a cameo appearance in Timeless.

Alongside Frenzy, Barricade chased down the Autobot engineer Fisitron on war crime charges, which included the destruction of the Decepticon Outpost Thetarus with Cosmic Rust. When Fisitron noted that the unethical Oilslick was more likely to be guilty, Barricade concurred, but he preferred to turn over an Autobot scapegoat to the Decepticon Crown Justices.

Quotes

This Dark Energon stuff better be worth it, Megatron.
~ Barricade in War for Cybertron.

Trivia

  • Barricade, design wise, is a merge between his movie incarnation and his G1 Micromaster self.
  • Barricade's design would be used for his more heroic IDW incarnation.
  • Barricade would have been among the many characters who would have appeared in Transformers Universe, where he would have used a design more reminiscent of his Movie counterpart. However, the game was cancelled. This design would be used in Timeless, a Transformers: Timelines comic published in the Transformers Collector's Club. Barricade's friendship with Frenzy is also inspired by their Movie selves.
  • Barricade's fate after the war was won by the Autobots is unknown.
