Bartholomew "Bart" Cavanaugh is a minor antagonist in Red Dead Redemption 2. He is a member of the Laramie Gang active in Strawberry.
Biography[]
Cavanaugh is a member of the Laramie Gang, an outlaw gang active in West Elizabeth. His crimes went largely ignored by the people of Strawberry until he was accused of sexually assaulting a local cattleman's daughter, judged a step too far. He is wanted dead or alive by the Strawberry Sheriff's Department with a $60 bounty on his head for assault, intimidation and destruction of property.
John Marston can accept the bounty and hunt down Cavanaugh, who is camped out with several other Laramies near Gnarly Rock. Cavanaugh and his fellow gang members are suffering from dysentery after drinking bootleg alcohol the previous night, leaving them at a disadvantage. John has the option to kill Cavanaugh and his friends and bring his corpse back to Strawberry or hogtie him and bring him in alive. If Cavanaugh is killed, Sheriff Vernon Farley orders John to dump his body behind the Strawberry Jail.
If he is brought in alive, he calls John a coward for ambushing him and brags about how fun the party was before throwing up on the way back. He also laughs about how he and his fellows drowned a rat by throwing it in a boot and urinating in it, then realizes he is wearing the boot, to his displeasure. He is then handed over to the Strawberry Sheriff's Department, threatening Sheriff Farley with the retribution of the Laramie Gang. Afterwards John has the ability to go back inside and mock or threaten Cavanaugh in his cell.

- Cavanaugh's name, alcoholism and history is based off Associate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was the subject of controversy after being accused of sexually assaulting his Yale schoolmate Christine Blasey Ford. Kavanaugh is even known to have used the pseudonym "Bart O'Cavanaugh".
