Basil's Something is a major antagonist in the psychological horror game Omori. It is a creature that seems to be for Basil what the proper Something is for Sunny, and manifests itself around Basil. Basil's Something, similar to Something, is the representation of Basil's guilt for helping Sunny frame Mari's accidental murder as a suicide.
Appearance[]
Basil's Something is a large group of shadowy tendrils that materialize themselves around Basil, with a gaping mouth surrounding Basil. Its eyes resemble that of Sunny's Something, being the eyes of Mari's corpse staring back at Basil and Sunny.
Biography[]
Past[]
Before the events of Omori, Sunny would accidentally kill his own sister, Mari, by pushing her down the stairs. His best friend, Basil, would help Sunny cover up the accidental murder as a suicide, hanging Mari on an old tree through the use of a jump rope. As both of them walked away, they looked back to see one of Mari's eyes staring open at them, with this materializing into Sunny's Something. Meanwhile, Basil's Something also manifested itself. Though, there is no obvious ties its appearance has to the incident that led to its creation.
Omori[]
Basil's Something makes its first appearance in Headspace. After helping Basil collect all of his photos after he dropped them, Omori and his friends would look through the photo album alongside Basil. Upon picking it back up after looking at it, however, Basil would stumble across a photo seemingly taken of Mari's death. After looking at it, Basil's Something begins to materialize around Basil, leading to Omori being sent back to White Space and Basil disappearing. Although Basil's Something does not return to Headspace after this, a brief cutscene can be played after collecting a Hangman key where Basil's Something is seen lurking behind him.
The game's story diverges depending on if Sunny opens the door for Kel at least twice. Depending on the route taken, Basil's Something is either a major antagonist, or a minor one.
True Route[]
By answering the door for Kel on Three and Two Days Left, Sunny hangs out with Kel before he moves away. During their time together, Sunny and Kel help out Basil when he is being harassed by Aubrey, and later both have dinner with him at his house after retrieving his photo album. After Kel mentions that Sunny was moving away, something Basil was not aware of, he goes into the bathroom, anxious and in disbelief. When Sunny checks on Basil in the bathroom, he sees Basil's Something manifesting around him, with Basil implying that he is somehow able to see Sunny's Something, similarly to how Sunny seems to be able to see Basil's. After this, Sunny leaves Basil in the bathroom alone with his own Something.
During the final day, Basil is alone in his room, Sunny (who was having a sleepover at Basil's house with Aubrey, Kel, and Hero) came in to stop Basil from killing himself, Basil's Something fully manifests itself and pulls Sunny and his Something closer to Basil, leading to the two boys fighting. Basil, trying to kill Sunny to protect him from his own Something, ends up striking at Sunny's eye with a pair of gardening shears, possibly blinding him in that eye. After this, both of them end up fainting of exhaustion and are sent to the hospital.
During a cutscene after the good ending, Sunny smiles at Basil after he wakes up, with his Something fading away. Basil smiles back, causing his Something to also fade away, with both of them moving on from their guilt.
Alternate Routes[]
By choosing to ignore Kel on as late as Two Days Left, the game's alternate "Omori Route" is taken, with Omori entering Black Space after completing the Hangman puzzle. In Black Space, when Omori reaches the black and white church, the Stranger appears and chastises Sunny for running from his problems before disappearing.
Suddenly, Basil's Something appears and charges at Omori, sending Sunny into pitch-black room. In this room, Stranger is surrounded by Basil's Something, and tries to keep Sunny with him. However, Sunny is warped to a red area after Stranger nearly kills him. In this area, he finds Omori who is warped to the dark room. Stranger tells him to leave, and a red hand brings Omori back to the church.
It is heavily implied that Basil kills himself during the alternate route. Additionally, during the true route, choosing to not visit Basil in his room, going back to sleep, or returning to Sunny's house will also result in Basil killing himself through the guilt of his Something. Choosing to visit the room after his death will result in an image of Basil's corpse, with his Something "splattered" around him.

Trivia[]
- As Sunny is an unreliable narrator, what we see in-game isn't strictly what Basil's Something truly looks like.
- However, with some of Basil's lines such as "Ah, There's something all around us now.", It does seem as if Basil at least has Something-like visions.
- Both Basil and Sunny seem to be aware of each other's Somethings, however no other characters are aware of them.
- It is a believed that Basil's Something retreated into his mind rather than fading away like Sunny's in the final cutscene, that it may return to haunt Basil again. Though it's not confirmed by OMOCAT.
- While it isn't confirmed why Basil's Something looks the way it does. It is theorized that it took its shape from either Basil seeing Mari's corpse at the bottom of the stairs, or Basil looking at the bottom of the tree he and Sunny hang Mari from.
