Bast is a minor antagonist in the 2017 video game Horizon Zero Dawn. He is the childhood rival of the Nora Huntress Aloy, who would later treat her harshly, due to her life as an outcast, going so far in calling her "No-Mother".
He would, as implied, secretly aid and abet with Resh during the Proving, a coming-of-age trial for new Nora Braves, but his plans would later fail, when Aloy prevailed as the winner.
However, when the mysterious Shadow Carja militaristic cult known as the Eclipse, led by Helis, attacked the event, Bast would sacrifice himself, along with Vala and other Nora Braves, hailing both of them as heroes.
He was voiced by Bryce Papenbrook (who also voiced Eren Yeager) as an adult and Laurence Bouvard as a child.
Personality[]
Bast is deeply devoted to the Nora's religion, including the belief of shunning outcasts, which includes Aloy herself. As a result, he is known to be callously arrogant and mocking towards any outcasts, going so far in sabotaging Aloy's attempts to win in the Proving.
In spite of this, however, Bast would later act courageously to protect the rest of the Nora Braves during the Proving Massacre caused by the Eclipse, at the cost of his life, as well as others, including Vala. During the proving, while the cultist was going to shoot them with machine gun, Bast stopped Aloy from leaving the covers, which saved Aloy's live.

The Proving[]
Bast would actively mock Aloy by telling her that she will lose in the Proving, albeit Aloy is completely unmoved with his threats.
Devising a plan, Bast would secretly aid and abet with Resh, the Proving's instructor, to actively sabotage Aloy's chances to win in the event. He proceeded to destroy Aloy's Grazer Trophy, but it was not enough to stop Aloy completely, where she won first place in the Proving.
Sacrifice and Legacy[]
During the Eclipse's attack on the Proving, Bast, along with Vala and the other braves sacrificed their lives to protect Aloy and the rest of the Nora Braves. Later on, after the horrific incident, they would be both later hailed as heroes from the survivors of the attack. However, Resh would only tell Aloy, now anointed a Nora Seeker, that they are no heroes, much to the sickening disgust of Aloy.
