~ Roose Bolton telling Theon Greyjoy that the Bastard's Boys actually serve him and not Ramsay |
The Bastard's Boys, as nicknamed by Theon Greyjoy, are supporting antagonists in the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series. They are a group of men-at-arms in service of House Bolton, and they loyally serve Lord Ramsay Bolton; however, their true allegiance lies with Ramsay's father, Lord Roose Bolton. They are also a counterpart of the Bastard's Girls, which is comprised of a pack of mean-tempered and vicious female hunting hounds whom Ramsay uses to hunt down women as part of his sadistic games.
Biography[]
A Dance with Dragons[]
The Bastard's Boys and Ramsay Bolton had repeatedly tortured Prince Theon Greyjoy, who was held captive in the Dreadfort, the ancestral seat of House Bolton. They left him in agony for days after they flayed the skin off his toes and fingers before they eventually removed the joints, but only after Theon begged Ramsay to remove them.
The Bastard's Boys are present when Ramsay Bolton hosts Arnolf Karstark and Hother Umber. During a feast in the Dreadfort, they sat on the best seats in the dais. They accompany Ramsay during the Siege of Moat Cailin and even assist him in finding Jared Frey, Rhaegar Frey, and Symond Frey near the Northern town of Barrowton, as the three Freys had mysteriously gone missing. Despite the efforts of Ramsay and the Bastard's Boys, they failed to find them.
Although the Bastard's Boys were favored by Ramsay, Lord Roose Bolton tells Theon Greyjoy, who is now called Reek, of their true allegiance. At Winterfell, the ancestral seat of House Stark and currently held by the Boltons, the Bastard's Boys followed Ramsay around the castle, and they toss a freerider from Winterfell's battlements.
