A version of Bruce Wayne known as Batman the Silenced is an alternate version of Batman and an antagonist in the DC Comics universe who resides in the Dark Multiverse.

Biography[]

On an unspecified version of Earth in the Dark Multiverse, the Wayne and Elliot families walked into Crime Alley after they watched "The Mark of Zorro", where Thomas and Martha Wayne were shot and killed by Joe Chill. As a result of Thomas Elliot and his family witnessing the murders, instead of growing up under Alfred's watch, Bruce was raised by the Elliots.

Losing his mind to the madness of grief, Bruce was declared mentally unfit and committed to an asylum. As he grew older, Tommy had Bruce transferred to Arkham Asylum while the former took control of Wayne Industries and eventually became a senator of the now-independent city-state of Gotham. Bruce spent most his life in Arkham as a test subject of the asylum's head, Dr. Jonathan Crane; he found out the truth about his parents' deaths with Alfred's help while also learning criminal psychology, disguise, spycraft, unarmed combat, how to kill without leaving a trace or to leave a message, escape artistry, and the art of detection, poison, surveillance, and much more from inmates Bruce received access to from his mole in Arkham, Jack Napier. After years of training with these inmates, Bruce initiated his plan to escape, having Napier to fake his death with the drugs and autopsy scars needed, with Tommy and Dr. Crane suspecting that he had truly died, although they had found that he was holding a ticket to "The Mark of Zorro" that had not been seen in his cell before his "death".

Escaping Arkham, Bruce donned the costume and alias of Batman the Silenced and embarked on a campaign to reclaim what had been taken from him. He secretly invaded the asylum, attacking and presumably killing Dr. Crane. Later, he is seen perched atop a stone gargoyle, intently watching Tommy as the helicopter he was in was shot down by a missile. He later ambushes Tommy and a squadron of League assassins in a warehouse, killing the assassins and engaging in combat with Richard Grayson, otherwise known as the Gray Son, and Jason Todd, giving Tommy the chance to escape. Later, as Tommy was searching for answers to his assailant's identity in the abandoned Wayne Manor, he is intercepted by Richard, who argues over whether Tommy knows more than he lets on about the Wayne murders before preparing to kill him. At that moment, Batman the Silenced dragged the two through the wooden floorboards to a prison-like chamber formed in the caves beneath Wayne Manor, where Tommy discovered Dr. Crane, Jason, and all of the other people who disappeared because of Batman the Silenced, along with Alfred. Batman the Silenced then appeared from the shadows, revealing his identity to Tommy and telling him that he knew what he had done all those years ago, noting that everyone was dead but them as he pulled his former friend from the edge of a cliff, the claws on his glove digging into Tommy's flesh. Bruce berated Tommy for his failures and told him that he had watched for years as he and the other corrupt officials in charge picked at Gotham's corpse and that now it was time to scatter the vultures. As Tommy pleaded with Bruce to let him help him make things right, Bruce declined, stating that he had forgotten what day it was and that Tommy would too. With his vengeance complete, Batman the Silenced would begin his war on Gotham's corrupt regime, beginning by defeating the rest of the Gray Sons.
