Bayawak is a minor antagonist in Filipino action drama series Black Rider.
He is a one-eyed henchman working in Golden Scorpion particularly to Nolan Alvarez’s group in the syndicate who was tasked to hunt down Black Rider for Nolan as his way to extract his revenge on killing his son Jasper Alvarez.
He is played by Michael Flores who also played Samuel Catapang in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
Background[]
He has been a member of the Golden Scorpion working under Nolan Alvarez’s syndicate becoming one of his loyal henchman and assassins. One night during Jasper’s wake, Nolan orders him to hunt Black Rider to extract his vengeance in killing Jasper.
Later on, he managed to fight Black Rider after catching him luckily as he raids one of their hideout resulting defeating the Black Rider upon stealing his sword and throwing him on the terrace. As he throws Black Rider on the terrace, he attempted to chase him with his goons after Miguelito backed up Black Rider and help him escape from their hands. The next day, Black Rider returns to their hideout to retrieve his bolo knife stolen by Bayawak, and managed to fight him once again. He gets seriously beaten by Black Rider to make him confess who’s the mastermind of the Golden Scorpion but managed to escape causing Black Rider to follow him. The cat-and-mouse game ended in a boutique shop witnessed by Black Rider’s mother Alma confirming the existence of Black Rider. With this duel he was defeated after Black Rider stabbed his injured eye causing his right eye to be permanently injured. With his failed attempt to hunt Black Rider, he was confronted by Nolan threatening him to shoot his uninjured eye.
He was later seen again wearing eyepatch and confronts once again Black Rider after he enters in one of Golden Scorpion’s hideout. He attempted to take down once again Black Rider, only that the latter threw a knife on his uninjured eye causing him to be permanently blind and knocks him off resulting his downfall. It is unknown what happened to him afterwards, however it is implied that he might have been arrested by the authorities if he survived, or killed either by the effect of his injury. It is also implied that he might also be killed by Nolan or Calvin after learning his failure.

- His codename “Bayakawak” means monitor lizard in Filipino. His codename can also imply about his criminal nature for being a murderous individual as monitor lizards are known to be hunting down and killing their prey’s.
