| ~ Adams after killing Zeke Daniels. |
Bethany Elise "Bea" Adams is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "Seek and Destroy". She is the psychopathic accomplice of gang leader and serial killer Zeke Daniels, and the true mastermind of his gang's spree of home invasion and murder.
She was portrayed by Stevie Lynn Jones who also portrayed Rina Davitt in The Rookie.
Early life[]
Bea was born into a wealthy, stable family, but nevertheless exhibited violent and antisocial behavior from a young age, getting kicked out of five boarding schools and repeatedly getting arrested for petty crimes. Her parents, Paul and Michelle, reacted to her behavioral problems by throwing money at them, giving sizable donations to each new school so they would accept her as a student. Her younger sister, Kendra, was her opposite in every way - a model student who grew up to become a junior assistant in the family's real estate firm.
After barely graduating from high school, Bea ran away from home and became the career criminal Zeke Daniels' accomplice and lover. She recruited Kay and Viv, two street kids surviving through prostitution, into Zeke's gang, which he ran with her and his former cellmate, Michael "Germ" Sale. She served as Daniels' enforcer and "devoted right hand", influencing the others to treat him as a combination of god and father figure. In reality, however, she was the true power and "alpha" figure of the gang, and manipulated Daniels into doing whatever she wanted by making him believe it was his idea.
The five of them drove across the country and broke into several upscale homes, robbing the occupants and using the houses for parties fueled by alcohol, drugs, and sex. The gang accesses their victims' houses with a ruse: Bea or one of the other girls would knock on the door and pose as charity workers, asking for donations to fund a sick family member's medical treatment, and then deliberately leave something behind; they would then return to the house and break in, tying up the house's occupants and stealing everything of value while they party and vandalize the house.
When she was 21, Bea found out her parents had officially cut her out of the family and given Kendra a promotion at their real estate company, enraging her and driving to her to seek revenge. At her instigation, Daniels began murdering the occupants of the houses they robbed after the other gang members passed out.
"Seek and Destroy"[]
While wrecking and robbing the home of the gang's latest victims, Rick and Lenore Purcell, Bea watches with sadistic glee while Daniels shoots the couple dead. The next day, she cons her way into businesswoman Claire Vendi's house, and she and Daniels murder Vendi and her husband over the objections of the rest of the gang. That night, Germ, Kay and Viv try to leave the gang, but Bea and Daniels strong-arm them into staying. The next day when Germ confronts Daniels, Bea manipulates Daniels into killing him in order to make Germ an example to the others.
Meanwhile, the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) investigate the murders, and initially profiles Bea as the gang leader's disciple, who willingly cedes her identity to him and obeys his commands in order to please him. However, the BAU team gradually realizes that the gang is targeting wealthy families because someone in the gang also comes from money, and probably has a history of lashing out at their family by breaking the law. Technical analyst Penelope Garcia cross-references juvenile crime records with wealthy families in the area, and finds Bea, and with her the rest of the gang.
Bea persuades Daniels and the others to break into her parents' house, the couple having returned home from a work conference. She takes Paul and Michelle hostage at gunpoint while repeatedly kicking her mother. When Daniels objects to her personal vendetta, Bea turns on him and shoots Daniels twice in the chest and head, killing him. She then unmasks and reveals herself to her parents. When Viv and Kay try to escape after realizing her true intentions, she takes the former hostage and shoots her in the leg, then shoots the latter in the stomach. Just then, the BAU bursts in to arrest Bea, whom they have surmised is the true leader of the gang, and the others. Agent Stephen Walker disarms and arrests her, while his fellow agents arrest Viv and Kay. As she is taken into custody, Bea snarls and lunges at her parents, before laughing maniacally. After being put in a squad car and seeing Kay and Viv being taken to an ambulance, she screams while being driven away. She is then presumably imprisoned or institutionalized for life.
Trivia[]
- Bea is inspired by multiple real-life criminals:
- Natasha Cornett, one of the primary guilty parties of the Lillelid murders.
- Barbara Graham, a.k.a. "Bloody Babs", a convicted murderer who was executed for a home invasion murder for the sake of robbery where she was the bait. Her accomplices later killed one member of the group when he was planning to testify against them.
- Tiffany Cole, one of multiple killers of a couple Cole knew for the purpose of robbery. Shes one of three women on death row in Florida.
- Cynthia Coffman, the accomplice of transient serial killer/rapist James Marlow, their spree escalating from home invasions to rapes and murders of women. The couple turned on each other once they were caught.
