~ The beagle puppy to Cecil Palmer. |
A beagle puppy, also known as the Good Boy, is the main antagonist of the forth year of the podcast Welcome to Night Vale.
It is a nihilistic demonic creature that rules over Hell, and after being summoned to Night Vale by Chad Bowinger, it attempted to use its legions of strangers to bring a reign of destruction over the town, for no other reason than that it could. It is incredibly cute, and uses its demonic cuteness to control others' minds.
Its voice is never heard, but its words are repeated by Cecil Palmer, who is voiced by Cecil Baldwin.
Biography[]
Year Three[]
The beagle puppy was first summoned to Earth by Chad Bowinger in Night Vale, USA, in September of 2014. Chad had begun acting rather strange in the days leading up to the summoning, and the arrival of the puppy was so sudden and frightening that it managed to somehow scare away the Faceless Old Woman who secretly lived in Chad's home.
Year Four[]
Over the course of the next two years, the beagle puppy became acquainted with Chad and Maureen, and the puppy began slowly amassing an army of strangers by converting the members of Night Vale into them. It used its supernatural levels of cuteness to control the minds of others, and make them incredibly sick and vomit black tar.
In 2016, the puppy had its army of strangers, led by Maureen, rise up and attack Night Vale, bringing chaos wherever they went. They wanted nothing but to destroy, and Maureen abandoned the cause and turned on the puppy amid the destruction. The puppy first went after Cecil, metamorphosing into a deformed, large, monstrous version of itself but it was attacked by Sheriff Sam and Cecil got away.
With Maureen's help, the City Council, Mayor Dana Cardinal, Sheriff Sam, Cecil's boyfriend Carlos, and the angels of the city formulated a plan to drive the beagle puppy and its strangers into the Dog Park, a dimensional gateway in the city that led to a vast desert otherworld. The town's citizens managed to draw all the strangers and the puppy to the entrance of the dog park, even enlisting the help of literal five-headed dragon Hiram McDaniels to defeat them.
Cecil reported several possible ways the puppy was defeated, citing the efforts of the people of Night Vale coming together physically and spiritually, the radio station's floating cat Khoshekh attacking the puppy, Tamika Flynn's militia of vigilantes driving the strangers away, Sheriff Sam's secret police driving the puppy and its forces into the Dog Park, and even further possibilities, but none were confirmed. Whatever the case, the beagle puppy and its strangers were defeated and Night Vale was safe.
Personality[]
The beagle puppy at first appeared to be a happy, friendly puppy, content to sit in Chad's arms as it was carried around Night Vale. However, when its true nature was discovered, it revealed itself as a destructive, vicious, violent beast with no real motivation except to destroy. It wanted nothing at all, and was merely content in watching Night Vale burn at the behest of its armies.
Trivia[]
- The storyline surrounding the puppy was inspired by the Love & Rockets storyline "The Ghost of Hoppers".[1]
