~ Beast, threating to devour Haruka after wounding her. |
UMA Beast, typically referred to as simply Beast, is a villain in the anime/manga series Undead Unluck. The ninth of the "Ten Superior Rules," he is the embodiment of the concept of beasts and wholeheartedly embraces his role of tormenting and killing humans.
Biography[]
According to Beast, he was created during the first loop because God grew tired of watching humanity fight amongst themselves and wanted a different enemy for them. With his creation also came the existence of non-human lifeforms, such as predators who would hunt and kill humans. Over the next 99 loops, he enjoyed watching beasts kill humans from his seat in the Master Room, and presumably participated in a number of Quests.
During the 101st loop Beast, like the rest of the Ten Superior Rules, is prevented from leaving the Master Room by Andy using his soul to form a seal. He is seen when Fuuko Izumo enters the Master Room, but doesn't interact with her. On September 30, 2015, Andy's seal is weakened is enough for the gate to open for three minutes, during which Andy enters the Master Room to fight the Ten Superior rules and prevent them from leaving. In order to focus on more dangerous rules, he allows Beast and Language to escape.
Beast flies down to Earth and heads to Brazil during early October, where Fuuko is attempting to recruit Top Bull Sparx. He arrives during a landslide caused by Fuuko's Unluck, and lets out a roar powerful enough to destroy the landslide. The roar also causes Haruka Yamaoka's ears to bleed and for her to pass out, as she prioritized protecting Top's ears when she saw Beast. The other two people present, Julia U. Stitia and Top's mother, were both protected from the roar by being inside a dome reinforced by Haruka's Unbreakable ability. Beast laments seeing nature being destroyed, and declares that he'll kill Fuuko as revenge for Andy's persistent sabotage.
Knowing that only three people will be allowed to participate in the quest to fight him, he attacks Fuuko while asking which two Negators she will bring. Before she can answer Beast sends her flying with a punch, then looms over a collapsed Haruka and states his desire to eat her. Top is shocked, saying that people aren't food, which befuddles Beast. He states that anything that bleeds in nature is food, and summons a large amount of animals from the surrounding mountains to attack Top and Haruka. Top picks up Haruka, Julia and his mother and flees, while Fuuko shoots at Beast only for him to catch the bullets in his mouth. Beast announces his adherence to the rule of survival of the fittest before attacking Fuuko once more.
Top brings Haruka, Julia and his mother to the nearby town, noticing that the beasts chasing them stopped once out of the forest. Top speculates that they were ordered not to give chase into civilization. A still-weakened Haruka recovers and starts heading back to fight supported by Julia, summoning a suit of armor around them both. As she leaves the town the beasts start attacking her again, but they are unable to damage the armor. Meanwhile, Beast mocks Fuuko by saying she'd be better off having the Negator Unbeast, his supposed natural enemy, on her side to deal with him. Fuuko, however, points out that Unbeast does not exist and explains that the amount of Negators is extremely limited compared to the number of UMA. Beast rushes at Fuuko, consuming the soul of a nearby snake to transform into a giant snake, but is stopped from biting her by Top kicking him at high speeds, having resolved to fight alongside Fuuko, Haruka and Julia.
Top attempts to make peace with Beast by promising to stay away from the animals' turf, but Beast mocks his attempts at reconciliation. Beast states that he and all other animals were born to make humans suffer, and explains how at first there was only "man and earth." Rules and their resulting UMA, such as Death, Change, War and Beast, were added by God to torment humanity. Beast claims God's motivation is to find "the greatest life of them all." A tiger under Beast's control manages to tear off a chunk of Haruka's neck by going between her helmet and collar, and hands the piece of her flesh over to Beast. He eats it right before being shot at by Fuuko, but by eating a part of Haruka he managed to obtain Unbreakable as well. Using the assimilated power he converts the pelt over his body into unbreakable armor. With the armor protecting him, he is able to avoid being affected by Fuuko's Unluck. He overpowers Fuuko and picks her up by the face, loudly declaring that restore the world to when humans lived in fear of beasts. Top pretends to surrender and kneel in front of Beast to beg for mercy, only to kick Haruka's discarded helmet onto his head and use his Unstoppable ability to charge directly into Beast's torso. As her helmet is also affected Unbreakable, it is durable enough to clash with Beast through his own Unbreakable.
Top's speed enables him to fight evenly with Beast for a bit, eventually moving the fight onto the sea nearby, but Beast gains the upper hand by eating an octopus. He uses the octopus' slime to becoming slippery enough for Top's kicks to slide off him, and grows tentacles to effortlessly defeat him. He mocks Top's swimming ability, claims he has no interest in eating him to gain Unstoppable, and summons a group of sharks to attack him instead. However, the sharks are stopped by Fuuko, having gotten the ability to see souls after Beast ate the octopus. She points out that Beast does not have unconditional control over animals, but is instead attaching chains made from his own soul to them. By severing the chains, like what Fuuko did with the sharks, they no longer obey Beast. Beast is surprised by Fuuko's perception of souls, and after she uses her own soul to defeat a giant whale he recognizes her threat and resolves to kill her immediately. He ascends into Phase 3 and revives a group of prehistoric animals to attack the group.
Beast reinforces the animals with Unbreakable, and Julia, who also gained the ability to see souls, notes that the revived beasts do not have soul chains attached to them. Rather, Beast stores pieces of his soul remotely inside them to control them. Fuuko, after ruminating on the nature of souls, is able to get Haruka to communicate with the souls of the previous holders of Unbreakable. Through them, she is able to forge an even greater version of Unbreakable, creating armor for Top that can shatter Beast's Unbreakable. While Top fights the reawakened prehistoric beasts, Julia gathers the pieces of Beast's soul that were held inside them. Since it's not an attack, Julia's participation does not break the rules of the quest. Since soul pieces that are detached from a person's physical body return after a set time, Fuuko plans on infusing parts of Beast's soul with her Unluck to pierce his armor. Beast attempts to store the Unluck-infused soul piece elsewhere, but Top kicks it back inside him. Beast's stroke of unluck manifests by Top dashing around the world multiple times and blasting though Beast's body, shattering his Unbreakable armor and killing him. His body disintegrates as Fuuko, Top, Haruka and Julia celebrate.
In the Master Room, the remaining Superior Rules mourn Beast's death as his chair disintegrates, with the 7th Seat announcing the time with the phrase "Time: 1:34 A.M. Mr. Beast confirmed neutralized."
