I am the Void. I will sup upon your world until there is nothing left. And I will exist, because there is nothing you can do that will stop me.
~ Bel'Veth
Daughter of the Void. You will find the Watchers and confirm the truth, or your light will be snuffed out side by side with all others. This is not a threat. It is my promise.
~ Bel'Veth to Kai'Sa.

Bel'Veth, also known as the Void Empress, is one of the main antagonists of League of Legends franchise.

She is a nightmarish, highly intelligent, manipulative, voidborn-alike hivemind and empress wrought from the very essence of an entire devoured city, Bel'Veth is the very embodiment of the fall of Runeterra itself and the rise of a monstrous reality of her own imagining, filled to the brim with all she had consumed and intended to consume and reforge whole existence into what pleased her. Where she seeks to revolt against the rule of the Watchers, claiming sole ownership of the Void and the existence she seeks to destroy. Driven by epochs of repurposed history, knowledge, and memories from the world above, she ravenously feeds an ever-growing need for new experiences and emotions, consuming all that crosses her path, yet her hunger was never sated with a single world as her longing eyes turn towards the old masters of the Void.

She is voiced by Anoush NeVart.

Biography[]

Lore[]

Bel'Veth was created hundreds of years ago when the Void consumed a Shuriman city called Belveth, and she was formed as a twisted amalgamation of all of the buildings, people, animals, and memories that lived there. Bel'Veth has hundreds of year's worth of knowledge due to this, and is near-omnipotent as a result, as many have tried to kill her in the past but have all failed. True to her nature as a Voidborn, she easily erases all things, but replaces with a twisted void version of them, so the Shurimans translate her name as "God of Oblivion".

Occasionally, when Bel'Veth comes across someone that she sees of strategic value such as Kai'Sa or Kassadin, she will let them live, but make a deal with them that they must do what she asks them to do. Be'Veth met Kai'Sa in the void, and after a brief struggle easily subdued the latter. However, she decided to let Kai'Sa live because the Watchers of the Void directly conflicted with her plan, so she promised that if Kai'Sa would find and help her get rid of the Watchers, then she will spare her kind for a year. Kai'Sa reluctantly agrees to the deal because she knows that there is no way she can fight Bel'Veth. She also reminded Kai'Sa that if the Watchers are not destroyed, then Runeterra will definitely end, but if the Watchers are destroyed, then at least Kai'Sa will still have time to find something to defeat Bel'Veth, making the Daughter of the Void realize that Bel'Veth was in fact her only salvation.

Personality[]

Bel'Veth is a powerful Voidborn that has a century of knowledge, and she knows how to adapt and intimidate those that try to fight her. True to her nature as part of the Void, Bel'Veth wants to consume and destroy all of Runeterra. However, she still knows how to make deals with certain individuals she sees as valuable to achieving her goals, as she decided to let Kai'Sa and her father live in the hopes that they will help her destroy the Watchers, the ancient void entities that are a threat to her plan. Unlike most Voidborn, Bel'Veth is sapient and individualistic thanks to the human qualities she consumed at her birth. She considers herself to be a living embodiment of the true Void Crest icon Void and, above all, seeks to force all of Runeterra Crest icon Runeterra into the Lavender Sea so that she may remake all of reality within her own perfected image. She is cold and brilliantly intelligent, with nigh-omniscience and the ability to calculate information at a humanly unfathomable rate. This, of course, has made her incredibly arrogant; her plans have been so calculated with such precision that she honestly considers her own success an inevitability.

Whether this really is intelligence or simple delusions of grandeur is hard to say. In her pride, Bel'Veth believes herself to be superior and looks down on most beings, including her creators, the Watchers. She is utterly convinced of the inevitability of success, and so does not lie, instead choosing to speak only harsh truths as she sees them. In her plans to reshape, eventually, all of reality, Bel'Veth is willing to bargain and make deals with lesser beings that would otherwise oppose her, as she did with Kai'Sa Kai'Sa. As horrible as she is, Bel'Veth still honors her deals, as she is unable to tell lies, and can only state facts. Despite this, she still knows how to convince others to her side, as she did to Kai'Sa, someone who would normally never work with a Voidborn, by reminding the girl that she could easily kill her now if she wanted to, but if she actually did her part, there was a small chance that she may still have time to defeat Bel'Veth by finding a weapon powerful enough.

Power and Abilities[]

  • Telepathy: Due to the peculiar circumstances of her birth and the bond with the Lavender Sea, she possesses formidable telepathic powers. She has shown the capability to telepathically communicate, but not only that-on a large scale with hundreds of different individuals. She has managed to do this from great distance, having been shown to be communicating and manipulating mortals on the surface of Shurima all the way from Lavender Sea deep underground. Through her telepathy, she could reach out and send visions to her prophet Malzahar and convince him to bring other mortals to do her bidding.
  • Nigh-Omniscience: Born from the coalesced consciousness of an entire city, her mind contains millennia of knowledge culled from all of the minds she had consumed at birth. Aside from that, Bel'Veth's knowledge can be continuously expanded because she perfectly retains all the knowledge and experience of what she consumed into her brain. With this, Bel'Veth could compute thoughts and calculations believed to be impossible for mortal minds, thus allowing her to devise such an intricate plan that it simply could not fail, because as she believes, she absolutely will win. Correspondingly, with the Lavender Sea's rare deviation from the Void, Bel'Veth can boast a unique sense of sentience that sets her apart from other Voidborn-skills that she is capable of naming herself and bargaining, rather than being consumed like an average animalistic Voidborn.
  • Voidborn Physiology: She is a really specific Voidborn, brought about by the Lavender Sea's desire for a representative within physical reality. All Voidborn are the constructs and subjects of the Watchers-programmed with an inborn desire to consume all of reality but turned into vicious beasts. As they are completely alien, the laws of reality do not hold the Voidborn back, and they can take numerous forms, sometimes mocking the biological lifeforms of Runeterra Crest icon Runeterra. Bel'Veth, for example, has taken the form of a gigantic manta ray-like monster.
    • Shapeshifting: Although she usually takes the form of a vaguely humanoid disguise, she's more than happy to discard that and turn into something far more monstrous, her false 'chest' unfolding into some kind of gaping maw lined with several rows of teeth. In this form, Bel'Veth becomes gargantuan in size and much stronger and faster.
    • Winged Flight: She is a manta ray-like form grants her giant wings that allow her to hover above the ground and fly at incredible speeds to the point where she moves faster than the human eye can track. The tips of her wings are incredibly sharp, allowing her to slice and stab at opponents with immense speed.
    • Tail Strength: She has a huge tail with a spiked tip at the end of it. With pure strength, Bel'Veth can slam her tail on the ground so hard it disrupts the ground.
    • Spawning: She can spawn her own Voidborn out of the Lavender Sea and shaped after the aquatic life that surrounded the city of Belveth. Some of the creatures, which she refers to as remora, are more automaton-like drones bereft of their own thoughts and act purely as extensions of Bel'Veth's influence, attacking in swarms at Bel'Veth's command. Some have also become more specialized and have started spreading Bel'Veth's influence to the other Voidborn outside the Lavender Sea, such as how the Lamplights happened upon the Xer'Sai in Sai Kahleek and started granting their soft-blue glow to some of the hatchlings.

Trivia[]

  • Bel'Veth's name comes from the Ba'al - a storm god, savior figure in Ugaritic tradition, and Maveth, as well as deriving from death, oblivion, or an angel of death.
    • Her lore states she got her name from Belveth-the city she absorbed-it means "God of Oblivion" in Shuriman.
  • The face and accent of Bel'Veth is a mixture of Shurima Crest icon Shuriman features because it was a city in Shurima.
