Belsnickel is the main antagonist of the 2020 film The Christmas Chronicles 2.
He was an orphaned elf who was adopted by Santa Claus. Though Belsnickel had a strong relationship with Santa, his heart was darkened and he became rogue after Santa had less time for him. Consequently, this caused Belsnickel to be cursed into becoming a human, causing him to run away. As the years passed, the latter harbored a strong hatred for his adoptive father and sought to destroy Christmas.
He was voiced and portrayed by Julian Dennison who also played Firefist/Russell Collins in the 2018 X-Men film Deadpool 2.
Biography[]
Belsnickel was originally an orphan millions of years ago during ancient times but he was soon adopted by Santa Claus. In the coming centuries, during his youth, he soon became popular in Santa's village because of his brilliance. He was then taught how to master potion making by Mrs. Claus while Santa taught him the ways of inventing which led Belsnickel to develop an innovative mind. He and Santa once made a working toy butterfly together in Santa's workshop and they both grew to love each other. However, by the time Belsnickel reaches teenage hood things soon began to change; as Christmas spirit began to universally grow around the world, Santa had less time for Belsnickel as he became very busy. This caused the latter to become resentful of his adoptive father and he became rebellious and unruly in nature.
He soon began to cause mischief around the village even at work, which was against the strict E.L.V.E.S code (Ego, Lying, Viciousness, Envy, and Selfishness). It soon reaches a break point when Belsnickel was caught vandalizing Santa's sleigh. When he admitted to Santa and Mrs. Claus the reasons behind his actions, in which he selfishly states that they care more about all the children in the world rather than him, he ended up violating the last part of the E.L.V.E.S code and he was cursed into becoming a human, whom he despised. Humiliated and full of rage, he ran away from the North Pole and fled to the South Pole, which is located in Antartica. There he took shelter in a cave and made it his lair where he continued inventing. At an unknown point in time, he encounters a yule cat which he then tames and names Jola.
The christmas chronicles 2[]
Belsnickel is first seen in his cave looking at a photo of his younger self with Santa Claus and then a photo of both Santa and Mrs. Claus. At the same time, while he clearly misses them he nevertheless voiced his resentment for them until he was interrupted by his elven henchman Spick, who gives him a video tape that he stole from Santa. Upon looking through th tape which shows a little girl named Kate Pierce, who is a strong believer in Santa. Disgusted that Kate is a true believer in Santa Claus, Belsnickel orders Spick to track her down. Turning to look to the audience, in which he broke the fourth wall, he states that Kate is perfect and gives out an evil smile.
When Kate was tracked down to Cancún, Mexico, where she is celebrating her Christmas at a beach resort, Belsnickel immediately travelled to his destination. There, he secretly hears Kate wishing to Santa to help her get out of the resort and that she'll run away if he doesn't help him and began plotting to help her but only to take her captive.
