“ | You would dare to make demands of me? Know your place, little lamb. Fool is the shepherd who heeds every bleat of the flock, and I will suffer yours no longer. Must I spell it out for you, Branded? No one is listening. No one at all! Come, little lamb... To the slaughter with you! | „ |
~ Benedikta preparing to fight Clive Rosfield. |
Benedikta Harman is a major antagonist in the 2023 action role-playing high fantasy video game, Final Fantasy XVI. She is the head spy of Waloed's elite intelligencers and the Dominant of the Eikon of Wind, Garuda. She was also a companion of Cidolfus Telamon, after he had saved her from slavery, before the two went their own separate ways.
She is voiced by Akari Higuchi and Nina Yndis in the Japanese and English versions of the game.
Personality[]
Benedikta presents herself to be a ruthless, condescending individual. As she puts up a domineering front, she takes delight in punishing those. As the head of the Waloeder Intelligence, she is a tactical spymaster that is tasked with collecting intel. She is highly devoted to serving the Kingdom of Waloed and its king, Barnabas Tharmr, and because of this, she has little tolerance for those that choose to turn against the king and his nation. She values power above all else
However, beneath her ruthless front is a tragic, scared individual that desperately wants to be loved by others. Ever since she was saved by Cid, she had been in love with him for his heroic act and was deeply hurt when he decided to leave Waloed behind, in favor of following his own path. She would later start relationships with Hugo Kupka and Barnabas himself even, but in both instances, it appeared that she was not truly in love with either of them and that her affection for Cid still lingered. This is later show when she sees Cid for the final time, in which she asked him to come back to her and make a new world with each other.
Part of her motives stemmed from her desire of being valued and not having to face death. Losing her fight against Clive and her powers would prove to a traumatizing blow to her mental state, as she was reduced to a fearful individual that could barely defend herself, before ultimately giving into her own despair, losing the will to control her Eikon Garuda allowing it to take control of her body and fully manifest itself. Tragically, the path that she chose to follow would unfortunately lead her to her demise.
History[]
Background[]
Benedikta was once a slave until she was rescued by Cidolfus Telamon. Having fallen in love with him, she accompanied him on his journey and eventually, the two entered in service of the Kingdom of Waloed. However, while Benedikta remained loyal to the king, Cid abandoned his post upon realizing the corrupting influence lingering within the nation, leaving Benedikta to feel bitter of his actions.
At some point, Benedikta met Hugo Kupka, the economic advisor of the Dhalmekian Republic, and entered in a relationship with him. Though Hugo was genuinely infatuated with her, Benedikta did not appear to share these same affections with him.
