Benicio is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Rey Gutiérrez) in the Disney Channel Latin American original series Soy Luna.

He is an Italian self-centered aspiring singer and Simón's archenemy.

He is portrayed by Pasquale Di Nuzzo, who also portrayed Stefano Mario in Tini: The New Life of Violetta.

Biography

Early life

Benicio used to live in Cancún and worked at Foodger Wheels with Simón Álvarez, but quit before Luna Valente got a job there. He used to always get Simón in trouble, including stealing money from the cash box at Foodger Wheels and framed him for it. All of these which made Simón dislike him a lot. Benicio also had his own music band but later dropped out and he decided to move to Buenos Aires looking for a fresh start.

Benicio arrives at the loft where Simón, Nico and Pedro are currently residing and Simón is surprised to see him. Nico and Pedro immediately take a liking to him, even when he says he has heard Roller Band before via streaming and shows his great admiration for their talent, and allow him to stay over. Knowing that Simón is currently working for VIDIA in the production of his upcoming album, Benicio tells Simón that he has dropped out of his own band and moved to the city in order to become a talented singer himself. Even though for Nico and Pedro he is the kind of humble, cheerful and good-hearted friend they've ever expected, Simón, however, is not as happy about Benicio's surprise-announced return. Simón tells Nico and Pedro that he had a trouble past with Benicio: He used to work as an employee alongside him at Foodger Wheels (which was before Luna started working there) and Benicio would always get Simón in trouble with their boss, particularly with stealing money from the cash box and framing Simón for the theft; therefore he doesn't trust Benicio and warns Nico and Pedro to be careful with him. Benicio even pressures Nico and Pedro into admitting him in RollerBand, insisting that he is just what they need to grow as a real band and Delfi is not professional enough. When Pedro defends her, Benicio deduces that he has feelings for her. In addition, he disagrees with Simón constantly rejecting his manager Bruno's strategies to further boost his fame and advises that he should listen to him, instead of just criticizing him, which he isn't because Simón only wants people to listen to his music and not pretend to be someone he is not. He tries to convince Bruno to give him a chance of becoming a singer, but is rejected as well.

Later on, he gets to meet Jam & Roller, the place where Simón and his friends skate, and also Juliana, the trainer and general manager, whom he has a rough start with. When Benicio sings with Roller Band, Juliana orders him to get off the stage because only the members of said band are allowed to rehearse, then he does it a second time to impress her, only for Juliana to once again reject him. "I think that you're in... You're in a waiting list. Keep participating", she rebukes, and a humiliated Benicio angrily storms out. This also causes him to become the subject of laughingstock when a meme of his reaction over Juliana's rejection becomes viral. From that moment on, Benicio slowly reveals his true colors: Determined to get revenge on Juliana, he aligns himself with Ámbar, for whom he develops a crush on despite her not being interested, in order to stain her name. They break her crystal skate into pieces (as they know is her weak spot related to her ending-career accident) and later Benicio "accidentally" posts on Fab&Chic a video recorded by Jazmín in which Juliana yells at Luna, Matteo, Simón and Ámbar, who is at fault for provoking her, in a very harsh and exaggerated way that her outburst goes viral and it eventually costs Juliana her job at Jam & Roller when the video reaches VIDIA's authorities. Benicio is eventually exposed as the culprit behind the crystal skate, with Simón having already his suspicions and a spy camera recording his confession, which is witnessed by Luna and Juliana. As a result, he is banned from Jam & Roller by Juliana and Simón, Nico and Pedro force him to move out of the loft, although he never reveals to anyone that his accomplice was Ámbar. Before leaving, Benicio tells Ámbar that he didn't bring up her involvement in destroying Juliana's crystal skate. Ámbar is genuinely surprised and asks Benicio why he did it. In response to her question, Benicio kisses her, but she does not reciprocate. He tries to kiss her again but she stops him and the two awkwardly part ways.

Personality

Benicio is bright, cocky, self-assured and manipulative. He is always looking for success and personal gain no matter what damage he may cause along the way. At the end of the series, he and Emilia realize that their behavior won’t get them anywhere and they both decide to change, which is shown in the last episode where they act much nicer and humbler to Juliana and others.
