Beniko: Wataru, dear. Do you remember me? It's me, Beniko... Beniko Yamaoka.
Wataru: That's right... Beniko Yamaoka... A woman who followed me around after I met her through work five years ago. This woman followed me, ambushed me, and stalked me in this manner for a year. The police issued a restraining order and from then on, she disappeared. However, last month, the four years of nothing came to an end. I suddenly received a letter. The letter contained written details of my actions and they were completely accurate. She was without a doubt watching my every move!
~ Wataru telling his experience on Beniko after meeting her in a dream.
It's futile. Wataru dear. I can see you... Wherever you are.
~ Beniko after Wataru smashed one of the curved mirrors and running away from her

Beniko Yamaoka is the secondary antagonist of Junji Ito's manga Travelogue of the Succubus/Sensor. Essentially a seemingly unassuming woman that the reporter, Wataru Tsuchiyado, met around 5 years ago when he was working, Beniko is revealed to be a crazy stalker infatuated with Wataru to the point she relentlessly harassing him several times until the police put a restraining order on her. It was then revealed that she is also a member of Indigo Shadow, working with the leader, Aido Kagerou, to unravel the secrets of the universe.

Biography[]

During Chapter 5, when Wataru began to lose track on Byakuya Kyoko during his investigations at Bishakeura Teahouse after she jumped off to the nearby sea in order to get rid of the eldritch insect creatures of Bishakeura, Wataru attempts to sleep in order to track her whereabouts. To his surprise however, he ended up meeting with Beniko Yamaoka instead, a woman that he met 5 years ago during his day at work prior to the main story. It was then revealed that Beniko is a crazy stalker relentlessly harassing Wataru for a year before the latter decides to call the police and issued a restraining order on her which causes Beniko to disappear entirely. However, her determination of stalking Wataru has not vanished as she decided to sent him several letters around a month ago while telling him to stop pursuing Byakuya Kyoko because she is out of Wataru's league and Beniko is the only one who could make him happy.

Seeing that Beniko still relentlessly stalking him to the point she managed to watch his every move, Wataru decided to contact the police again to no avail. Attempting to track Beniko's wherabouts in order to apprehend her, Wataru almost got into a near-accident after an unnamed car driver crashed his car into the curved mirror's pole while claiming it was an accident because he couldn't differentiate between brakes and accelerator before running away and crashing another curved mirror's pole again. It was then revealed that Beniko uses one of the curved mirrors as a medium to make an appearance while Wataru doesn't noticed her existence in the real world. This causes Wataru to become scared after she got too close to the mirror which causes him to throw a brick at said mirror and run away from it as she told him how useless his efforts are.

Returning to his apartment after the incident, Wataru then noticed the news on his television regarding several hit and run accidents happened across the country which bent the curved mirror’s pole so that the mirrors could reflect with each other. This in turn, also caused a mass hysteria across Japan after one of the people seeing someone has been stalking them in the curved mirror. After seeing what happened, Wataru decided to bent one of the curved mirror that he damaged in order to make them reflecting with other curved mirrors. This resulted in the jet-black hair strands began to appeared in the mirror. Taking one of the strands, Wataru decided to contact Dr. Kurodera in order to analyze the black hair that he had found.

However, when attempting to analyze one of the strands, Beniko and the rest of the members of the Indigo Shadow cult which also includes the driver Wataru had met from before began to kidnap both Wataru and Dr. Kurodera to an unknown building. Knowing this, Wataru then asks Beniko's motivation for relentlessly stalking him in which she tells him that she worked with the leader of Indigo Shadow, Aido Kagerou, to fine-tune the curved mirrors across Japan in order to not only spread their marks across the country, but also throughout the world and the universe in order to refine the cult members' power of clairvoyance bestowed by the Lord Amagami while also telling Wataru that she wants to use its power so that Wataru could be herself forever in order to be bestowed of great amount of energy.

It was then revealed that Aido, Beniko and the rest of the cult members had kidnapped several innocent people that had encountered Byakuya Kyoko as Aido ordered his cult members to perform an excruciating ritual towards said people while waiting for Mount Sengoku to erupt in order to track Byakuya Kyoko's whereabouts. Beniko then happily decided to mate with Wataru in order to perform the ritual so that she could become one with him and making him forgetting Byakuya in the end.

In the end however, as the ritual is finished which resulted in the cultists becoming much more insane and the innocent people that they project themselves into had their bodies become shriveled into becoming nothing but skeletons after being covered by the jet-black hair that erupted from the Sengoku Mountain. It was then revealed that Wataru managed to escape from Beniko’s grasp and was transported to another universe where Byakuya Kyoko is located much to Beniko’s dismay. After Wataru returned from the Edo Period of another universe which resulted in Aido seemingly banished forever thanks to Byakuya Kyoko and the missionary named Miguel, Beniko then becomes insane alongside the members of Indigo Shadow after covering herself with jet-black hair because she and the rest of Aido’s cult members already saw all the way to the limits of the universe where Lord Amagami resides.

Appearance[]

Beniko Yamaoka is a woman that sets an immediate unnerving aura based on her appearance alone, with long hair with bangs covering parts of her face, large, wild eyes, and pursed lips near a small nose. For clothing, she wears a black dress with a red sash around the waist and matching high-heels. At one point, it is shown that she also wear a necklace when she kidnapped Wataru and his companion, Dr. Kurodera, alongside the members of Indigo Shadow.

Personality[]

Beniko herself can be described as a classic Yandere who has a possessive personality towards her crush, Wataru Tsuchiyado. Her obsessiveness can be shown where she has no hesitations to use underhanded tactics such as relentlessly stalking, ambushing and even wire-tapping Wataru wherever he goes despite what she did would cause Wataru to have several uncomfortable experience. Due to her insane amount of possessive personality, Beniko also shows a huge jealousy towards Byakuya Kyoko as she attempts to get rid of Wataru's memories about her so that he could be hers forever during the ritual to find Byakuya Kyoko. After revealing herself to be a member of a cult, she also shown to be a fanatic alongside Aido that believes about Akashic Records as they attempts to obtain the power in order to unravel the secrets of the universe.
