Benito Aretas is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside James McGrath) of the 2020 buddy cop action comedy film Bad Boys for Life, the third installment of the Bad Boys franchise.
He was the husband of Isabel Aretas, the main villain, and the stepfather of Armando Aretas, who was actually Mike Lowrey's son. Benito lead his own Cartel and ruled it until his arrest and later death in 1989, but is continuously mentioned throughout the film.
It is unknown who portrays him.
Biography[]
During 1989, Isabel Aretas became romantically involved with drug kingpin Benito Aretas; the pair soon got married at the time where Benito's drug empire was being investigated by the Miami Police Department, the DEA and many others. Soon enough, Police captain Conrad Howard enlisted rookie detective Mike Lowrey out of the Police Academy (prior to Mike's longtime partnership with Marcus Burnett) to go undercover and infiltrate the Aretas cartel. During his time undercover, Mike engaged in an affair with Isabel and she showed him the ways of her lifestyle - thus leading to Mike's current high-life personality.
When the time came to take down the cartel, Isabel planned on running away with Mike, as she became pregnant as a result of their affair. However, Mike realized how dangerous Isabel was, as she was nicknamed, "La Bruja" (Spanish for "The Witch"), for being into black magic, leading to Mike having her locked up as well. Benito ended up dying after his arrest, and as for Isabel, she gave birth to a son in prison, named Armando.
It turns out Benito was infertile meaning he was unable to have kids during his lifetime. As it is discovered by Mike that Armando wasn’t Benito’s son, he hunts down Isabel for answers. After that, Benito is no longer mentioned in the film, after the downfall of his ex-wife Isabel and the arrest of his supposed son Armando, the cartel his family ran died with Isabel.
Trivia[]
- Benito may had been a dangerous individual but at the same time he was respected by some media, as one of the news articles about him labeled him as a "Mexican Hero" showing he was honored by some people.
