~ Reeves

Benjamin Reeves is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds: Evolution episode "Oedipus Wrecks". Reeves is the son of Senator Martha Reeves and a serial rapist and murderer of government employees, out of his rage against Martha he protected onto them.

Biography[]

Benjamin hated his mother for being narcissistic, loveless, and authoritarian over him all his life. It's also implied she was unhealthily obsessed with and possible sexually abused him as a child. She would make him grow into the man when she wanted and support her career, ordering him around and hitting him when he refused. His profile would suggest he also never grew out of teething, so he developed biting and cannibalism fetishes. Benjamin would later be one of the founders of Beltway Elite, a dating app company providing a provide network for government employees and discretional business policies of deleting data from ended chat sessions. His record showed he had multiple arrests for drug possession and assault, one victim being Martha's third husband on their wedding night. Benjamin long wanted to kill his mother for hating and objectifying him, which he found an opportunity for when coming across Elias Voit online, a serial killer and organized crime boss known by his alias "Sicarius". Voit promised Benjamin he'd teach him how to kill and give a specially sharpened metal mouthpiece for his biting torture fantasies, in exchange for Benjamin providing his server as a major private network forum, bankrolling many of Voit's operations. Benjamin grew inpatient and bickered with Voit over the phone about wanting to be next, but as Voit was being sought by the FBI and was losing his funds, he told Benjamin to wait. When he was finally free to act, Benjamin's assistant, Mitch Nevins would arrange his profiles, scene cleanups, and transportation of murdered victims, as well as be prepared to be a patsy for Benjamin, in part by anarchist brainwashing to make him more compliant. Voit, however, was prepping a plan to off Benjamin and make him a patsy for the the network investigation, hoping to kill him and frame him in a staged suicide.

Benjamin first raped and bit Jessica Sayer, a local sex worker, but she fought him off and escaped. At the hospital, Nevins paid her for her silence. Benjamin was furious and decided to up the ante with some of the clients on the app. Picking young, beautiful white women resembling his mother and who were close to their families, he targeted Sandra Hart, a Board of Education official, Claire Durham, a congressional page, and Rose Clark, whose job was never specified. Benjamin lured each woman to his house, spiked their drinks with GHB, and chained them to his basement. With the mouthpiece, Benjamin bit the women while raping them, strangled them to death, and kept biting them even after they died. He and Nivens bleached the wounds to erase his DNA, then blanched the women's hair with peroxide and alkaline agent to resemble his mother. As Reeves killed more women, his biting was more vicious, the blanching more extensive. Nivens would leave the women dead near Martha's properties in rural communities across Virginia. As Claire broke up with Deputy Director Doug Bailey, he took the case personally and called the BAU, who discovered the connection to Sicarius.

It didn't take long to identify Benjamin, even after Jessica refused to talk. Bailey was against arresting him due to political ramifications, and Benjamin himself found out, directing Nivens to take the fall. Around the same time, Martha demanded he participate at a charity, and although he originally refused and insulted her, she made him kneel in front of her and caressed him to demean and manipulate him again, forcing his agreement. Nivens distracted the BAU by not admitting he was guilty, but leaving the mouthpiece and other evidence in his car to be found, which they quickly saw through. When Benjamin held Jessica at gunpoint to interrogate her, then prepared to kill her to silence her testimony, the agents stopped him and arrested him. Agent Prentiss pushed Benjamin's buttons with his crimes and what he hated about his mother, but instead of confessing to his crimes, he confessed to Voit's. Bailey made the team release him regardless, Martha horrified by the implications and threatening the unit's decommission if the charges weren't dropped. It wouldn't matter, as once Voit met Benjamin, he helped restrain Martha and left Benjamin only five minutes for him to kill Martha by fatally biting her face off, of which the strain of the crime's reality made Benjamin vomit. Voit then flew Benjamin to Georgia, where he shot Benjamin and staged the murder as a suicide. The Attorney General, after the massive embarrassment, settled for pinning the Sicarius crimes on Benjamin, which was a major setback in the case and the opportunity needed for Voit to escape again.
