~ Benny Fazio to Christopher Moltisanti; his most famous line.

Benito "Benny" Fazio, Jr. is a supporting character in the HBO Television Series The Sopranos.

He is a soldier in the DiMeo Crime Family located in Northern New Jersey during the 2000's. Similarly to his partner, Christopher Moltisanti, Benny is younger than the rest of his mobster associates and is new to the Mafia lifestyle, as well as being extremely short-tempered, impulsive and irresponsible.

He was portrayed by Max Casella.

Biography[]

Background[]

Benito Fazio, Jr. was born on June 7, 1972 somewhere in northern New Jersey to Benito Sr. and Connie Fazio. Just like the rest of the major characters in the series, Benny grew up around the life of mobsters and eventually became associated with DiMeo Family associate, Christopher Moltisanti and became long-time friends with him. Not much else is known about Benny's past other then the fact that prior to 2000, Benny was arrested and sent to a county jail for about one year.

Season 3[]

In the episode "Fortunate Son", Benny is released from prison and reunites with Christopher, who had also became a made man, alongside Eugene Pontecorvo. Afterwards, Benny became an associate of the Soprano Crew, run by Paulie Gualtieri through his connections with Chris. Around this time, Benny is frequently seen hanging out with Chris at the "Ooh-Fah" pizzeria, until Chris realized that he is too higher-up as a mobster to do such actions, with him and Benny eventually recruiting with Jackie Aprile Jr. and his friend Dino Zerilli to rob charity Jewel concert at Rutgers University, which went successfully.

Season 4[]

In 2002, Benny is assigned by the family to work as a carpenter at esplanade construction site, where is normally seen slacking off with the other mobsters including, Gene Pontecorvo, Patsy Parisi, Vito Spatafore and "Little" Paulie Germani. Around this time, Benny and Peter LaRosa were assigned to murder Credenzo Curtis and Stanley Johnson, two black heroin dealers who were hired to assassinate Lupertazzi Crime Family boss, Carmine Lupertazzi, due to the assassination being later called off by Tony Soprano.

Season 5[]

Over the years, Benny became more trusted by Tony and the rest of the Soprano Crew, which can be seen when he is assigned by Tony to protect his family after his wife, Carmela divorced him and when her and her son, A.J. found a large bear in their backyard. Benny also takes part in Tony's scheme to have Feech La Manna put back in prison. One night while at the Bada-Bing Strip Club, Benny is approached by Phil Leotardo, another high-ranking member of the Lupertazzi Family in New York, who interrogates Benny if he knew the location of Tony's cousin, Tony Blundetto who was in hiding after killing Phil's brother, Billy. Before Benny could get away from Phil, he is attacked by him and is put in the hospital. Due to Tony feeling bad for his injuries, Tony finally had Benny made in 2005.

Season 6[]

Part I[]

In 2006, Benny was seen doing various orders from the higher-ups, including driving Silvio Dante to the hospital after Tony was put in a coma, interrogating and chasing after an escaping Vito after he was outed as being gay and even helping out Angela Bonpensiero with her loan sharking and auto body shop businesses. Later in the first part of the final season, Benny is revealed to be married to a woman named Jan, who is pregnant with their unborn son. Despite this, Benny is also revealed to be having an affair with Martina, a hostess at Vesuvio, an Italian restaurant run by Tony's longtime best friend, Artie Bucco. Benny was also seen being a part of a credit card scheme run by Chrissy, with him using his relationship with Martina to get account numbers from Vesuvio and to sell them to James Zancone. After the restaurant was almost shut down, Artie identified the culprit being Martina and confronted Benny, with the two having a fight with Artie winning. After apologizing, Artie antagonizes Benny when he visits the restaurant with his father, causing Benny to put Artie's hand in a bowling pot of tomato sauce, burning his hand. However, the two later reconcile.

Part II[]

While Benny is seen frequently throughout the second part, he only gets involved with the family when he is enforced to explode Phil's house in Sheepshead Bay after a war started between the two families, much to Benny's joy. However, sadly, Phil and his girlfriend came to the house just after it exploded, leaving them unharmed. Benny was also a witness to when Chris threw Paulie Germani out of a window. Later in the season, Benny is making collections when he is informed of the death of Chris, who died in a car accident (after being suffocated by Tony, which was unknown to anyone besides Tony). This hurt Benny deeply as the two were extremely close. Benny was also one of the various guards protecting Tony when Phil wanted to have him murdered. After days of paranoia, the family eventually found Phil at a gas station, where Walden Belfiore murdered him in front of his wife, with Benny acting as the getaway driver, which is the last time we ever seen Benny.

Trivia[]

  • Similarly to a majority of the mobsters in the series, Benny has been a source of running jokes, gags and even memes surrounding his lines, including Artie Bucco calling him a "criminal mastermind" and his most famous quote, "fiber optic cables", which created a popular meme on the internet, involving videos showing characters from The Sopranos and other media talking with the key word being said a second time slowed-down with a picture of the key word being showed on screen.
