Benson is the main antagonist of the 2023 film The Passenger.
He is played by Kyle Gallner.
Biography[]
Benson is a man driven by a twisted sense of purpose, believing that pain and violence are necessary for growth. His past is largely a mystery, but his behavior suggests a lifetime of frustration and disillusionment. When he witnesses Randy being bullied at work, Benson takes it upon himself to "fix" the situation in the most extreme way possible—by murdering everyone except Randy.
Seeing potential in Randy, Benson forces him into a journey of self-discovery, using intimidation and brutality as his teaching methods. He pushes Randy to confront his past, including his unresolved guilt over an incident with his former teacher, Mrs. Beard. Benson orchestrates meetings and confrontations, escalating from psychological manipulation to outright violence, culminating in the brutal beating of a vice principal from his own past.
As their journey spirals out of control, Benson's actions become more erratic. His belief that he can shape Randy into a stronger person clashes with Randy’s growing defiance. When their actions catch up to them, Benson realizes that his own detachment from life has led him to this inevitable end. In a final act of surrender, he walks into the hands of the police, forcing them to gun him down. His death leaves Randy with a newfound sense of agency, finally able to take control of his own life.
