We got an expert!
~ Bert Coleman's catchphrase.

Bert Coleman is the main antagonist of the Regular Show episode "Expert or Liar". He is a charismatic and famous game show host who surprises random strangers by asking them questions on a particular subject, often embarassing them on national television.

He was voiced by Troy Baker.

Personality[]

Not much is known about how he acts outside of filming 'Expert or Liar', but he is shown to be an arrogant, rude and sadistic game show host who is obsessed with embarrassing people on national television, probably for fame and fortune. He doesn't appear to care about the emotional harm he puts Rigby through, and even goes out of his way to try to permanently tarnish his reputation.

Biography[]

The episode starts with Rigby tending some plants and flowers in the park, where an old lady approaches him and shows interest in his work. She starts acting rather strangely, asking if Rigby is an expert on flowers, to which he jokingly replies that he is. Suddenly, cameras appear around him and the old lady turns out to be the game show host Bert Coleman donning a disguise for his show 'Expert or Liar', which has him stalk members of the public and randomly quiz them on whatever they are doing at the time.

He starts asking questions about flowers, to which Rigby is confused on the correct answers and fails miserably. He is dubbed a 'liar' by Bert and is humiliated on national television, which the park workers watch later on and laugh at the embarrassed Rigby. Although he seems to brush it off, he is very upset and hurt by the incident, vowing to get back on 'Expert or Liar'. He gathers a load of snacks and sets off on a journey through the city to try to find Bert Coleman again. After hours of searching with no luck, he falls asleep ashamed on a bench where Benson finds him and drives him back to his apartment. Benson reveals that he also has embarrassed on national television, and wants to help him get his revenge.

They travel to the studio where the show is recorded and find a filing cabinet full of locations where Bert Coleman will record next, with the discovery that the next episode will be filmed at an arcade. Rigby disguises himself as a regular guy and travels to the arcade to try and get on the show. Sure enough, he is approached by Bert in a disguise and tricks him into getting back on the show to prove he is an expert at something, being video games. Although Bert is initially reluctant, he agrees to give Rigby a second chance, but if he loses again, the episode of him failing will be played on repeat every day for a whole year. He agrees to the deal and begins the game show once again.

Bert Coleman then somehow warps reality to create a giant video game obstacle course, forcing Rigby to complete it whilst answering tough video game questions. He gets every question right, much to Bert's annoyance and makes it to the end where he has to answer one last question. Hanging off the ledge of a metal beam, he is asked who holds the universe record for the game 'Broken Bonez', and a pixelated Garrett Bobby Ferguson forms underneath Rigby laughing maniacally. Rigby says that it indeed was Garrett Bobby Ferguson, which is wrong and Bert calls him a liar, but he then says that the record was broken by himself and Mordecai. Finally winning the show, Rigby dubs himself an expert and flies through the air, punching Bert in the face. He falls down yelling and gets eaten by Garrett Bobby Ferguson, who then explodes.
