~ Betty taking responsibility for her part in Giuseppe Montolo's crimes to save her husband. |
Betty Wilson is the secondary antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "The Job". She is assassin Giuseppe Montolo's partner in his vendetta against the people who disfigured him, helping him take his revenge because he used her hiring him for killing the drug dealer who got her addicted to opiates and raped her.
She is portrayed by Jamie Tompkins.
Early life[]
Betty suffered two miscarriages, and was prescribed opiate painkillers during each recovery. She quickly became addicted, and when her physician refused to give her more, she turned to a drug dealer. Her addiction worsened to the point that she bankrupted herself and her husband Phil, endangered his job as a SWAT captain, and gave in to her dealer's sexual demands in return for more drugs.
She eventually got sober and salvaged her marriage, but hated the dealer so much for what he did to her, stalking and harassing her even when she tried to ditch him, that she decided to have him killed. She found hit man Giuseppe Montolo on the dark web, and paid him to kill the dealer in the most painful way possible. When a former client ordered a hit on him that resulted in his getting shot in the face, Montolo took the Wilsons hostage by revealing Betty's actions to Phil, then holding it over their heads by forcing their assistance in tracking the former client and their home as a place to hide out in. Phil still forgave Betty when Montolo's presence forced the truth out of her, agreeing out of duress to protect her from prison or death. Presumably possible with Phil's position in law enforcement, she began compiling information about each target, and serving as Montolo's getaway driver after he killed each one, while also helping him change the feeding tube that he had depended upon to live since his disfigurement. Although she tried to keep the arrangement secret from Phil, he eventually found out, but went along with it because he, too, felt indebted to Montolo.
In "The Job"[]
Betty is first seen in her basement doing laundry, when Montolo suddenly appears and reflexively puts a gun to her head, not knowing at first who she is. Once he recognizes her, however, he lowers his weapon, and Betty gives him a file on his latest target, Brian Taylor. After Montolo leaves, Betty goes to her and Phil's bedroom and bursts into tears.
She goes with Montolo to Taylor's house, and drives him to safety after he kills Taylor. She then asks Montolo if he is leaving for good, but Montolo does not respond.
Soon afterward, Montolo shows up at Betty's house after he finds out he has been located by the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), believing that she has betrayed him. As revenge, he takes Phil hostage and drives away. Moments later, BAU Supervisory Agent David Rossi bursts into Betty's house, flanked by a SWAT team, looking for Montolo. When Rossi says that he believes that Phil hired Montolo to kill her, she admits that she, in fact, hired him, and tells Rossi about what the dealer did to her. She then breaks down crying with terror and regret.
Fortunately, Rossi is able to save Phil with help from the BAU's newest agent, Tara Lewis, who tricks Montolo into believing she is Betty. After Rossi, Lewis, and Agent Derek Morgan apprehend Montolo, Betty is imprisoned for her part in the murders.
