Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend is a sadistic antagonist from the Ragdoll Productions children’s program Brum. She is an athletically attractive Big Town Baddie who is the second known girlfriend of Big Bad. On the show she becomes obsessed with the Big Town Silver Swimming Trophy and steals it with the help of her boyfriend.

She was played by the late Kay Stanley.

Biography[]

Nothing is known about her life before her appearance on the show including why or how she became a thieving criminal. All that is known is that she physically exercises and that she is likely a seasoned criminal as per her tactics. At some point after the events of “Brum and the Snow Thieves” she met and formed a relationship with Big Bad, a fellow Big Town Baddie. It is implied that he left his 1st girlfriend for her or that she was able to steal his interest away from his current partner. Both scenarios are supported by the former’s later dishevelled appearance in “Brum and the Shop Window Dummy”.

Brum and the Splash and Grab[]

She is first seen emerging from a bush in front of the Big Town Swimming Gala with Big Bad as the Big Town Mayoress arrives. Turning her surly face in the direction of the Big Town Swimming Teams, she notices the lifeguards holding the Big Town Silver Swimming Trophy and the medals due to be given at the upcoming competition. Overcome with green envy, she lets off a big sigh before smiling evilly in the trophy’s direction. She then turns to Big Bad and nods fervently as both agree to steal the lot knowing it’s worth a heap of money or would make for handsome keepsakes. As the lifeguards follow Brum and the Mayoress up the path to the gala’s entrance, she charges forward with Big Bad in tow while letting off a feral snarl. With the loot getting out of reach the two barge through the crowd to intercept it. However, this treatment is comically returned when the crowd knock them about which results in her getting struck in the head. While dazed and disgusted, she is then grabbed on the shoulder and unceremoniously dragged into the gala by Big Bad.

After the race begins, she is seen walking behind Big Bad who spots the trophy and medals on the other side of the pool. Shooting off another excited evil smile she looks behind her to see if anyone is following before the two make their way to the loot from behind the Big Town Bananas’ (the yellow team) supporters who are cheering from the narrow sides of the pool. Initially she pretends to be friendly with the children before the two are unable to move any further up the literal aisle of cheering people. The two then resort to cheering the swimmers on as if they were two parents in attendance. Shortly after, she spies a lifeguard coming from the direction of the changing rooms, giving her the idea for the two to disguise themselves. She looks at Big Bad as he gets the same idea before both jog into the toilets where they swap their clothes for swimming outfits. Flashing a satisfied smirk, she briefly brushes her lifejacket and adjusts her goggles before turning sharply to Big Bad and gestures for him to follow. The two then effortlessly bypass the attention of all present before she and Big Bad respectively swipe the trophy and medals as the race ends.

As the pair hastily make their way to the changing rooms to retrieve their clothes, the Mayoress notices that the valued prizes are missing. Brum revs up his engine and races down the pool to intercept them. However, the noise alerts the thieves who turn around just before they are able to retrieve their clothes as the Bananas’ Coach points in their direction. Initially hesitant at abandoning her clothes she is pulled in the direction of the gala’s entrance by her boyfriend. However, there escape gets blocked by Brum and the Big Town Dolphins (the blue team) cheerers and coach, forcing them to turn around for the exit as she flashes an angry look at the supercar. However, the Bananas’ team with the lifeguards at the front block that escape route too which results in the thieves being sandwiched by Brum and an angry mob. Quick-witted, she snatches a man’s banana shaped floaty and looks to see if Big Bad follows suit. As he grabs a child’s floaty, she takes a moment to sadistically gloat at the crowd before jumping into the pool where no one dares to follow them. As the crowd disperses around the edges of the pool, the baddies swim to the exit. Before departing the building, neither can resist having a gloat at their victims while shaking their fists as she flashes a sadistic smirk for added measure.

Running in sync, the couple flee the scene of their crime before coming across one of the town’s fountains where the Visiting Man is biting into an apple. After the pair run around the fountain with Brum hot on their wet heels they take to one of the paths leading out of the Big Town into the countryside. Seeing that Brum is still pursuing Big Bad pulls her towards the Big Town Lake where a speedboat is docked. While he starts the boat, she turns to see Brum who is seemingly stuck on the shore. As the speedboat pulls away she triumphantly waves goodbye to Brum before turning her back on him and shaking her fist in the air. Initially, she revels in their apparent victory before she turns around to see that Brum is waterskiing after them. Shocked she immediately alerts Big Bad and starts barking instructions at him. After his initial efforts to shake Brum off are unsuccessful she fearfully clings to and starts tapping at him. The crooks face each other while she points in the direction of the bank, trying to direct Big Bad to drive at an angle where Brum will crash against it. However, he misjudges the angle which foils her tactic. With Brum still tailing them she gets irate with her boyfriend and starts shaking her fists in his face before abusively shaking her fist at the supercar. As Big Bad drives in another wide arc to lose Brum, she continues to pester and boss him about as he grates under the pressure.

However, the wide arc Big Bad drives in allows Brum to land himself on one of the lake’s slipways which causes a tug-of-war to break out. As this happens, she desperately wills the boat on as Brum heaves on the rope causing the crooks to bump into each other. Turning around she stands up in a panic as she sees that Brum is steadily pulling them in before nagging Big Bad to use more power, even if it means dangerously dragging Brum into the water. Unfortunately, for the thieves this yields no effect as Brum steadily hauls them in. Noticing that they are still aren’t going anywhere fast she turns around again and realises with horror that the police have arrived and that Brum is now on the verge of reeling them in. Standing up in a panic she relentlessly taps at Big Bad again just as Brum gives one final tug which beaches them while sending Big Bad flying backwards. Initially off-balanced and irritated with the speedboat she suddenly looks up in shock to see the approaching policewoman and swimming coaches demanding their surrender.

Big Bad compliantly yields while gesturing for her to surrender the prized booty. Having regained her composure and thinking that they can make another run for it, she grabs the trophy and medals and clutches them close to her chest while angrily glaring at him with disgust for giving in so easily. However, with a harsh look from Big Bad and knowing that further resistance will only increase her prison time she resentfully relents. As she gets on her knees to hand the loot back, she gives the trophy one last look-over with sadness before holding it forward while forcing a gawky smile of friendliness as Big Bad clutches her lifejacket. However, as the realities of prison continue to set in, her smile morphs into a glum look of disgust as she faces Brum, the policewoman and swimming coaches. As this materialises Big Bad solemnly pats her bum before Brum expresses his thanks for their surrender. Off-screen she places the trophy in Brum’s backseat and neatly ties the medals on his bonnet ornament. Following this she and her now ex-boyfriend are arrested and taken to the Big Town Prison for their crimes.

Although this Big Town Baddie remained incarcerated for the rest of the show, it is strongly implied that she quickly garnered a level of influence within prison as evidenced by fellow inmate Penny Pincher picking up a number of her traits. These include athleticism in relation to stamina, speed and strength and her sadistic qualities of abusing and taunting Brum. Penny displayed none of these characteristics before going to prison and these traits are prominent parts of Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend’s character. Despite this, she cannot steal or cause much grief to anyone while she remains behind bars.

Appearance[]

Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend is an athletic willowy woman with blonde hair braided in side loops and light blue eyes. She also possesses a lean athletic physique with toned arms and slender tanned legs, both of which indicate her penchant for physical fitness. Initially she is dressed in a rainbow coloured top with horizontal stripes with a blue set of shorts and sports shoes before she ditches most of her clothes for swimming clothes. These included a red singlet, lifejacket, shorts, goggles and a swimming cap which hides her hair.

Personality[]

Even before seeing the silver trophy, or committing any crimes, Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend is shown to be surly and snarly, indicating a choleric temperament. However, upon seeing the trophy and agreeing to steal it, she becomes very enthusiastic. She also proves to be arrogant. When stealing a speedboat she presumptuously and conceitedly waves Brum goodbye. In keeping with her arrogance she is also more of a control freak than her boyfriend, frequently bossing him around or trying to assert control. She is also shown to be brazen and impatient. Upon seeing the trophy she immediately charges forward and tries to barge through the crowd to get it. Additionally, she proves to be hypocritical as she is perfectly willing to use physical force when executing her crimes as shown by her physically barging through the crowd to get to the trophy, but is dismayed and disgusted when she is pushed around in return, resulting in her getting bonked on the head.

Like The Beady-Eyed Robber she is highly covetous and obsessive as evidenced by her extreme desire for the silver swimming trophy upon seeing it. Whenever she is shown looking at the cup it is usually with an extremely desirous expression. She even shows a lot more enthusiasm about the prospect of stealing the prized cup than her boyfriend Big Bad who is an experienced criminal. Her obsession over the trophy is also shown by the look of sadness she gave the trophy before having to give it up. This implies that she was motivated out an obsession for possessing the trophy itself than making an illicit profit. Despite her obsessive traits and being one of the most attractive villains on the show, she does not possess the vanity evident in The Beady-Eyed Robber or Big Bad’s 1st Girlfriend, as none of her crimes were motivated out of a desire to be famous or be a model. However, this doesn’t qualify as a redeeming trait because it is only the absence of a negative characteristic.

She is also shown to be abusive, callous, opprobrious, ruthless and sadistic. These qualities are shown by her willingly stealing from children and gleefully gloating about it in front of them. She even gratuitously gloats after snatching a banana shaped floaty from one of the cheerers. In all of these instances she takes an obvious amount of enjoyment in doing so, showcasing her sadistic nature. Unsurprisingly, she also frequently gestures abusively at Brum throughout her appearance and even does so against Big Bad. The first example of the latter is her angrily shaking her fists in his face after he proves to be ineffective at losing Brum when the supercar water-skis after them. The second is when she glares at him with contempt when he surrenders to the police while forcing her to do so too. More worryingly, her ruthlessness is showcased by her tactics as she encouraged her boyfriend to ram Brum into the lake’s bank and later instructed him to drag the supercar into the lake itself.

The only redeeming or mitigating qualities she displays is the implication that she is in an abusive relationship with Big Bad and some apparent remorse for her crimes when she hands back the trophy. The former is shown by Big Bad brusquely dragging her into the Swimming Gala after she gets struck in the head. However, this is refuted by her own abusive treatment of him and her sadistically gloating in front of the children while stealing their trophy. As for her seeming remorse when faced with her arrest this is more likely out the fact that she’s losing the prized trophy and her going to prison. This is backed up by the sad look she gives the trophy before handing it back and the look of disgust mixed with sadness she gives to Brum, the swimming coaches and police.

Tactics and abilities[]

Despite not having the same infamous reputation as other baddies like The Shadow, Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend subtly demonstrates a surprising amount of tact and cunning. This is primarily showcased through her quick wit, a trait demonstrated several times. This is first seen when she immediately pretends to be friendly with the children and the cheerers while she and her accomplice try to make their way to the trophy and medals. In contrast, Big Bad doesn’t even bother to put on a facade until he realises that they can’t advance any further. Upon spying a lifeguard emerging from the changing rooms, she immediately gets the idea that she and her partner should similarly disguise themselves to bypass the crowd. This tactic allows them to slip by and grab the trophy and the accompanying medals. When they get cornered between Brum and the two large cheering teams after their cover is prematurely blown, Big Bad is flustered as to what to do. Despite being trapped by a sizable angry crowd she quick-wittedly seizes a floaty from one of the cheerers with the intention of jumping into the swimming pool to escape. Once again her boyfriend follows suit and her tactics prove successful as no one (Brum and the lifeguards included) dares to dive in after them, allowing them to swim to the other side and use the exit. This demonstrates her ability to think even when under serious pressure, a trait not commonly shared among the Big Town Baddies.

She also proves to be inventive in her opportunistic use of environmental factors, a capability mainly shown during the lake chase. Although she becomes frantic upon seeing that Brum is waterskiing after them she immediately tries to take control of the situation, directing Big Bad on how to drive. Even in her frenzied she was still smart enough to try and direct Big Bad to drive the boat at an angle that would cause Brum to crash into the lake bank. This only fails because Big Bad misjudged the angle. Moreover, when Brum manages to get on land to begin pulling the boat in, she pesters Big Bad to floor the accelerator to try and pull Brum into the water.

Even in situations where she seemingly fails to see the obvious, she ends up showing a level of foresight. A prominent example was her remaining committed to the tactic of trying to pull Brum into the lake, even though she saw that Brum was steadily hauling them in. This culminated in them getting beached on the lake’s slipway where they are arrested. An obvious way to avoid this would be to grab the loot, dive overboard and swim to shore. This was achievable because she and Big Bad were dressed in lifejackets and were perfectly willing to jump into a swimming pool to escape an angry crowd earlier. However, here she demonstrates a degree of foresight because Brum, the swimming coaches and policewoman could’ve easily headed them off by borrowing another speedboat. Consequently, she likely remained committed to trying to pull Brum into the lake because she knew that the speedboat they’d stolen was their best chance. Additionally, when Big Bad surrenders to the police she immediately grabs the loot in defiance and regards him with disgust in an obvious attempt to coerce him into making a run for it to avoid prison. This would’ve seemed like a plausible strategy as there were two of them compared to only one policewoman. However, when faced with his disapproval and lack of support in addition to the likelihood of another escape attempt failing and her prison sentence being increased as a result, she finally surrenders.

Despite her quick-witted tricks, the following scenarios show that she still suffers from the same tactical shortcomings of the Big Town Baddies. She demonstrates herself to be quite impulsive and brazen as shown by her immediately charging in for the trophy and trying to snatch it from the lifeguards by barging through the crowd in broad daylight. Additionally, after her cover is blown she hesitates to flee the scene because her clothes are still in the change rooms. While part of this concern was definitely tied to her knowing that wearing swimwear would make them more obvious targets, she still overlooked the fact that they would be easily cornered in the bathrooms of they tried to retrieve their clothes. Here she demonstrates some short-sightedness as they could’ve scrunched up and stashed their clothes in the zip pockets of the lifejackets. However, this instance is partially excusable because she and Big Bad likely didn’t know when the race would end and couldn’t have accounted for the time it’d take to readorn themselves in their own clothes.

Her oversights also pile up when they are pursued by Brum at the lake. When stealing a speedboat she arrogantly thinks they’ve foiled Brum, but fails to notice the water board that is attached to the boat via a rope. This allows the superhero to water ski after them. However, this can be somewhat excused by her not seeing how Brum could use the water board without sinking or staying on without hands. While most of her tactical failures are partly excusable others aren’t. The biggest one is her having Big Bad speed up and increase the tension on the rope. By slowing down, Brum would’ve sank. Moreover, when Brum is waterskiing after them, she never thinks to look for anything to try and cut the rope with.

  • Leadership: Despite working with someone as domineering as Big Bad, she demonstrates a good degree of leadership in her skill set as she is able to instruct him on what to do. However, her control over him isn’t absolute as he does the same in return.
  • Mastery of Disguise: She also proves to be a master at disguising herself as she effectively passes herself off as a swimmer by rapidly ditching her own clothes and dressing up in a lifejacket with a red swimming singlet underneath, swimming shorts, goggles and a swimming cap. As she and Big Bad near the trophy, a child briefly looks at the two but suspects nothing. Her eagerness to do so indicates that she is experienced at disguising herself.
  • Athleticism: Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend demonstrates a formidable amount of athleticism in a variety of areas.
    • Speed: Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend is exceptionally fast by the standards of the Big Town Baddies. She is able to sustain a high speed chase with Brum and maintain a good lead over him. In this regard she’s also able to slightly outperform her burly boyfriend.
    • Strength: Unsurprisingly for someone of her athleticism, she demonstrates a good amount of physical strength. This is first shown by her effortlessly snatching a large floaty from a fully grown man whereas Big Bad opted to take one from a child. Additionally, she was even able to swim across the pool to the exit and sustain a high speed chase on foot whilst carrying a large silver trophy the entire time. Another demonstration of her physical strength was when Brum suddenly pulled the speedboat she and her partner had stolen onto the lake’s shore. Whereas Big Bad was sent flying backwards from the driver’s chair, she was able to stay upright despite the fact she was standing up due to not having anything to sit on. However, her level of strength is not on the same level as Big Bad’s as shown by him yanking her towards the swimming gala’s entry. To be fair, this was only done after she was painfully struck in the head and momentarily stunned. Additionally, Big Bad repeats this when he grabs her lifejacket and pulls her towards the direction of the lake. Despite this, she proves to be no pushover and was briefly seen snatching her hand away from him when he grabbed it as the two made their way towards the trophy from behind the yellow cheering team.
    • Stamina: She also demonstrates great stamina. While carrying a large silver trophy, she is able to swim straight across the swimming pool under the lane ropes towards the exit with no trouble. Even though she is soaked from the swimming pool, she then sustains a high speed chase on foot, matching and even exceeding Big Bad’s output in this regard with Brum on their heels. The two even pull out a relatively good lead on the supercar and beat him to a docked speedboat which they use to make their getaway. Despite, having ran at speed a considerable distance while wearing wet swimwear and lugging a large silver trophy she shows no signs of fatigue afterward.
  • Stealth: Like Big Bad she demonstrates a high level of stealth. After she disguises herself as a swimmer, she and Big Bad effortlessly sneak passed the yellow cheering team towards the trophy and medals without incurring anyone’s suspicions. However, this feat should be attributed to their disguises as neither did so while dressed in their own clothing. More impressively, she was able to snatch the trophy and then rapidly sneak back behind the cheering team with no one (Brum included) noticing. This is particularly impressive because this would involve quickly running passed the yellow team while they and the blue team were looking in the direction of the baddies as they made their way past. However, she and Big Bad weren’t able to get back to the change rooms to retrieve their clothes before their cover was blown. This can attributed to them being just able to nab the trophy and medals as the last lap of the race was completed.
  • Acting: She is also a proficient actor as she effectively posed as one of the cheerers and spectators of the swimming race. She is even able to feign friendliness towards the children while advancing on the trophy. This skill also helped reinforce her image as a swimmer/lifeguard after disguising herself. However, despite her performance her ...
  • Swimming skill: She is also shown to be a strong swimmer who jumps straight into the pool with no hesitation to escape Brum and the angry crowd. While carrying the heavy silver trophy the whole time, she matches Big Bad stroke for stroke with no assistance. However, she only demonstrates this while wearing swimwear. It is unknown if she can swim without wearing a lifejacket.
  • Feminine charm: As one of the most attractive villains on the show, Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend exudes a high level of feminine charm. However, it is unknown how or she uses her looks to her advantage as she is never depicted trying to seduce anyone and she isn’t particularly flirty with Big Bad. Despite this, her looks were likely one of the factors contributing to Big Bad’s breakup with his 1st girlfriend.

Trivia[]

  • Like all baddies her defeat and arrest is symbolic/ironic. Her getting stranded on the lake’s bank before begrudgingly surrendering to the police is symbolic on the following levels;
    • Getting beached on one’s the lake’s docks is an ironic pun as she is going to end up in the dock for her sentencing hearing.
    • Her getting busted dressed in her red disguise shows how she’s been caught red-handed. This made more pointed by how the camera focuses on her reaction to seeing the police and swimming coaches at the lake as the “wuh, wuh, wuh” sound-effect rings out.
    • The red swimwear she gets arrested in subtly symbolises how much trouble she is in.
    • Her getting reeled in by Brum and hauled to prison afterwards is symbolic of her and Big Bad being what inmates call “fish”. These are basically new inexperienced prisoners. This is also showcased by how her fake smile morphs into a look of disgust mixed with dread as she realises the trouble she’s in.
    • Furthermore, much like Penny Pincher, her wearing a horizontally striped top foreshadows that she's going to prison at the end of the episode. This is due to the fact that prison uniforms are often stereotypically depicted as being black and white with horizontal stripes.
  • Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend parodies Penny Pincher on the following levels;
    • Both wear horizontally striped rainbow coloured tops.
    • Both accidentally get physically hurt by their victims when they first attempt to steal what they want within the opening minutes of their appearances. Pincher’s hand gets trodden on by the ballet instructor while Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend gets struck in the head when she charges through the crowd.
    • Both steal from and in front of children.
    • Both get arrested near bodies of water whilst they are still wearing their disguises. Pincher gets apprehended at the Big Town Fountain while she is still wearing the tutu she used whilst pretending to be a ballet student. Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend gets detained at the Big Town Lake while dressed as a lifeguard.
    • Both happily ditch their own clothes to disguise themselves. Pincher willingly discards her own skirt for a tutu before making off with the music box. Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend takes this to another level by happily abandoning most of her clothes to disguise herself as a swimmer/lifeguard. However, while Pincher immediately runs off with the music box without a second thought for her skirt, Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend momentarily hesitates and looks to the bathroom where her clothes are after her cover is blown.
    • Both wear black lanyards. However, while Pincher’s lanyard is part of her regular outfit with a key attached to it, Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend’s is only seen with one that has a safety whistle attached to it after she disguises herself as a swimmer/lifeguard.
    • Both also spit out water on-camera. However, Pincher does so after being thrown into a dirty fountain while Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend does so after she jumps into the swimming pool to escape Brum and her angry victims.
  • In some ways, she acts a foil to the blonde leader of the Cake Gang.
    • Both are tall and attractive women with blonde hair and light blue eyes.
    • The blonde gang leader’s sleeveless black jacket is a little similar to the sleeveless lifejacket Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend wears because both use a zip down the middle. However, the former’s jack is part of her casual outfit while the latter’s is part of her disguise.
    • Both are dominant and assertive. However, the blonde gang leader practically has full command over the rest of the gang while Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend is constantly fighting with Big Bad for control.
    • Both can be abusive. However, the blonde gang leader is only slightly rude towards the most incompetent member of the gang while Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend can be very abusive towards Big Bad.
    • The blonde gang leader is a teenager while Big Bad’s 2nd Girlfriend is an adult.
  • Out of all the female Big Town Baddies she likely has the longest prison sentence for the following reasons;
    1. She stole more items in one go than any other female crook on the show. This not only includes the trophy, medals and speedboat, but every part of her disguise which includes the lifejacket, whistle, swimming singlet, swimming shorts, swimming cap and goggles.
    2. Thieved highly prized items from children.
    3. Was very sadistic in conduct towards both Brum and her victims.
    4. Willingly and actively participated in stealing a speedboat.
    5. Deliberately encouraged her boyfriend to try and crash Brum into the lake's sidebank before pestering him to drag the supercar into the water. Both acts put Brum in serious danger.
  • She is the only female Big Town Baddie who doesn’t get arrested by the incompetent Traffic Policeman. Instead she is arrested by a competent female cop who is able to track her and her boyfriend all the way to the Big Town Lake despite having no help from Brum.
    • Incidentally, she cops the least amount of slapstick comedy and punishment out of her fellow female Big Town Baddies on the show. The most slapstick thing that happens to her is her getting hit in the head at the beginning of her episode and her and Big Bad making their escape dressed in swimming overalls. Other female Big Town Baddies have had endure the following;
    1. The Beady-Eyed Robber gets thrown into a trash can.
    2. The whole Cake Gang get stuck in wet cement.
    3. Big Bad's Assistant's Girlfriend ends up getting sprayed with a hose and covered in mud.
    4. Penny Pincher gets catapulted into a dirty fountain.
    5. Big Bad's 1st Girlfriend gets buried in snow before being pummeled by snowballs. Her final defeat involves her going through a car wash.
    6. Pickpocket Polly tumbles into a dirty fountain.
  • She is Big Bad’s 3rd criminal accomplice.
  • On the show, the “wuh, wuh, wuh” sound effect usually plays out when the baddies are beaten or when they have a misfortune. However, in the case of baddies who work as partners in crime this normally happens when the camera is facing both of them as seen in the following examples;
    1. Nick and Rob in “Brum and the Pizzeria”, “Brum and the Posh Dog” and “Brum and the Golf Buggy”.
    2. The thieves in “Bushes on the Run”.
    3. Big Bad and his 1st girlfriend in “Brum and the Snow Thieves”.
    4. Pickpocket Polly and Magic Paul in “Brum and the Pickpocket”.
  • This running gag implies that the baddies are practically equal in terms of culpability and/or are just as bad as each other. However, after she and Big Bad get beached by Brum the camera first focuses on Big Bad as he uses his legs to get back up before transitioning over to her. When the camera is focused on Big Bad there is silence but as soon as it focuses on her the sound effect rings out loudly and sharply as she looks up in shock to see the swimming coaches approaching with the police. This strongly implies that she is ultimately guiltier than her accomplice and is the nastier crook of the pair. These points are strongly supported by how she grabs the trophy and medals and clutches them close to her chest whilst glaring at Big Bad with anger and disgust when he surrenders.
    • Incidentally this is the only time where the sound effect rings out whilst the camera is facing only one baddie who is working with an accomplice.
  • Outside of being an actress, her portrayer Kay Stanley was also a children’s teacher and entertainer who toured with The Tweenies. However, she was tragically was killed in a train crossing accident in 2008.
  • Her and Big Bad stealing a trophy from a sports competition is reminiscent of when The Rascally Big Town Robber stealing the Golden Town Racing Trophy in “Brum and the Big Town Race”. Outside of this similarity, there are a few differences between this episode and “Brum and the Splash Grab”;
    • Whereas the former depicts one thief stealing a trophy, the latter depicts two crooks stealing a cup.
    • In the former The Rascally Robber steals a smaller trophy made of gold while in the latter she and Big Bad steal a larger trophy made from silver.
    • In the former The Rascally Robber doesn’t disguise himself while the thieves in the latter discard most of their own clothes for swimming disguises.
    • In the former The Rascally Robber doesn’t steal an expensive vehicle to make his getaway while the thieves in the latter do.
  • Ironically, a trophy that is virtually identical to the Big Town Silver Swimming Trophy was stolen by Nick and Rob two episodes later. If the air dates of the episodes are to be believed, this would occur a fortnight after she gets jailed.
  • Despite only appearing in 1 episode of Brum, she has a highly developed personality. This can be attributed to the writing and direction of the episode and Kay Stanley’s performance.
