Me, Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh. Gotta have a squaw!
~ Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh

Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh is a minor antagonist in Popeye the Sailor Man, only appearing in the episode "Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh". He is a Native American tribal chief who kidnapped Olive Oyl and tried to marry her.

He is voiced by Gus Wickie, who was also the second voice actor for Bluto.

Biography[]

In "Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh", Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh sang a song about himself, which detailed how he was looking for love and needed a squaw to be his princess.

At this time, Popeye and Olive were trying to move a stubborn donkey across the land but he refused to budge and kicked Olive through the air, landing her in the chair next to Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh. Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh was instantly smitten with her and wanted to make her into his Squaw. Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh gave Olive a bunch of gifts and fancy jewelry, which flattered her and made her love him.

When Popeye saw Olive with Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh, he was not happy with her wasting time with some crazy circus freak and tried to force her to come with him but Olive refused, as she was having lots of fun with the Indian tribe. Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh told Popeye that if he didn't leave, he'd break him in half, killing him, and throw his corpse in a ditch. Popeye didn't take a word he said seriously and Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh grabbed him and threw him. Popeye went back up to Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh and threatened to eat his spinach and attack him. Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh summoned his Indians to challenge Popeye to some contests of fire starting and arrow shooting, both of which, Popeye easily won.

After Popeye beat his Indians, Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh challenged Popeye to a tomahawk fight. However, he tricked Popeye into taking a tiny tomahawk so that he could use a giant tomahawk, making for an uneven match. Unsurprisingly, Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh won the fight and had Popeye tied up to a stake over a fire.

Popeye used his spinach to break out of his trap and then fight with Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh. Popeye rolled two logs together to make a huge fire, he used two tall trees to make a giant bow and arrow and fire the arrow tree into the sun, and then he rode on a donkey and roped up all of the other Indians and then threw them all away. Finally, Popeye went face to face with Big Chief Ugh-Amugh-Ugh and knocked him out with an uppercut, stole his headdress, and reclaimed Olive Oyl for himself.
