The Big Coffin Hunters are the main antagonists of the novel Wizard and Glass, the fourth instalment in The Dark Tower series by Stephen King and its graphic novel adaptation Gunslinger Born. They are hitmen that serve John Farson.
History[]
THe Big Coffin hunters were started by Eldred Jonas after he had been exiled for failing the Gunslinger trials. He recruited two outlaws called Roy Depape and Clay Reynolds. They were hitmen and murderers. At some point, rebel leader John Farson recruited the Hunters to infiltrate in Hambry to pose as sherrifs, in order to get supplies such as oil and horses.
They were also ordered by Farson to keep Maerlyn's Grapefruit safe. They brought it to the witch, Rhea of the Cöos got into a fight with the Gunslingers. No one was killed, but the Hunters vowed to kill Roland, Cuthbert and Alaine.
Depape was sent to confirm that Roland and his friends were Gunslingers. Jonas then send Depape to kill Mayor Thorin and frame the Gunslingers for the murder.
They took the Grapefruit back from Rhea. After Susan freed the Gunslingers. she was captured by the hunters, who gave her to Rhea and Cordelia Delgado to be burned alive. However, the Gunslingers caught up with Jonas and Depape and killed them easily.
Clay Reynolds became an outlaw with Coral Thorin and they rejoined Farson. They were eventually caught after a robbery and were hanged.
