~ Big Daddy revealing his corruption and racism |
Spencer Gordon Bennet, also known as Big Daddy Bennet, is a major antagonist in the 2012 Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained.
He was portrayed by Don Johnson, who also portrayed Sir in A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Role
He is the owner of the Bennet Manor plantation and an associate of the Brittle Brothers and was a villainous, cruel and merciless man of immense wealth. After meeting Django and Schultz he was instantly suspicious of the two and after their attempt at killing a man for a bounty he held the two at gunpoint and demanded to know their real identities and intentions.
After faking affability for Django and Schultz by letting them go, he hid his true intentions to torture and kill both of them to death and opts to gather all of the townsmen as a backup in an attempt to perform a raid on their nearby camp. After giving the mob a pep talk and putting his bag disguise over his head however Big Daddy begins complaining that he can't see and soon enough the mob begins bickering with each other about their bag disguises and how it's too difficult to see out of them, eventually leading to the one whose wife made the bags to leave and head back home in anger. Annoyed Spencer eventually demands silence from them by explaining that as long as their horses can see the raid will go smoothly and as soon as it's over they can get rid of the bags.
The mob then rushed down to the camp and began setting it ablaze and firing random shots in the general direction. Unfortunately for Bennet and the mob Schultz and Django predicted the move and shot their dynamite, killing several of them, before shooting down everyone in the mob. During the carnage Big Daddy rode away, but Django shot him dead before he could escape.
