Big Mama is a major antagonist of the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, serving as a supporting antagonist in season 1 and a major antagonist in season 2.
She was voiced by Lena Headey, who also played Ma-Ma in Dredd, Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones, Aunt Grandma in Uncle Grandpa, and Morgana in Tales of Arcadia.
Personality[]
Big Mama is a thrill seeker with little regard for others' well being. She constantly searches for new contenders in her Battle Nexus, a fighting arena that thousands of other yōkai pay big money to see, and she will find ways to trick people into fighting in it. She is ruthless and when making deals, Big Mama keeps her word, but she is notorious for altering the terms at the last second. Big Mama cannot stand her stuff being stolen from her, a rule she has above all else.
Appearance[]
As a yōkai, Big Mama is a massive spider monster with four clawed arms, four short legs, a large thorax, six eyes, large teeth, and green hair. Her human disguise has silver hair, and she usually wears a suit and glasses. Her human form is a short, attractive figure she likes to use to ease people into trusting her.
Biography[]
Big Mama is one of the most powerful figures in the Hidden City, rivaling the Hidden City government in influence. She is the host and owner of the Battle Nexus, a blood sport that she livestreams to paying guests and the owner of the Grand Nexus Hotel in New York City. She also owns a train and a train station, an auction house, and a demolition derby known as the Doom Dome. Doing business with both humans and yōkai, Big Mama pretends to be an affable business woman, but in reality, she is a selfish crime boss who will do anything to turn a profit or gain more power.
Past[]
Big Mama was the girlfriend of action star Lou Jitsu who she met as his trailer driver, keeping her identity as a yōkai a secret. Their romance was blissful, but when Lou Jitsu asked for her hand in marriage, she kidnapped him to exploit his martial arts skills in her Battle Nexus. Her trafficking of Lou Jitsu ended 10 years later (against Big Mama's will) after he was taken by Baron Draxum who Big Mama has some history with and despises.
Bug Busters[]
The Grand Nexus Hotel is visited by the Ninja Turtles and Big Mama fools them into getting her Oozesquitoes so she can use them to create mutants to enter in Battle Nexus as competitors. She later seeks to force the Ninja Turtles to be rodeo clowns for the amusement of her Battle Nexus audience. Leonardo eventually saves his brothers and later foils her plans by escaping. Big Mama later fights both Donatello and Michelangelo, but is defeated by them and locked her up inside of her hotel office vault.
Bullhop[]
Big Mama dances with her new crush, Stanley—now called Bullhop—at her box social, ignorant to the fact that he is her old employee and that he is friends with the Ninja Turtles. She attacks both Bullhop and the Ninja Turtles after discovering their plan to steal her spider silk from her so they could capture the remaining Oozesquitoes.
Turtle-Dega Nights: The Ballad of Rat Man[]
Big Mama rivals Donatello and Michelangelo when they enter her New York City demolition derby as the reigning champion. Angry about them stealing from her in "Bullhop", Big Mama tries to defeat them by entering her own car. However, Splinter and the Ninja Turtles win instead.
The Ancient Art of Ninja Hide and Seek[]
Big Mama is cared for by her bellhops in her hotel spa.
Insane in the Mama Train[]
Having vaguely allied herself with the Foot Clan as she allows them to move something to another location using her train, Big Mama pressures Draxum to give her the Mystic Orb in order to secure her consent to use her train.
Many Unhappy Returns[]
Splinter and Leonardo seek Big Mama's help in catching the Shredder after he is revived. It is in this episode Big Mama learns what Lou Jitsu's fate was after fleeing from her 13 years ago. She has Splinter and Leonardo both compete in her Battle Nexus against seven opponents. Once they win, she gives them the Mystic Collar to use for the Shredder's return to his prison dimension. Upon subduing the Shredder, Big Mama does not return him to his prison dimension, the Twilight Realm, but rather takes custody of him to make him a Battle Nexus competitor. She controls his mind with the Mystic Collar to have his obedience.

The Hidden City Job[]
When hosting an auction at her auction house, Leonardo and his friends Capitán Piel and Señor Hueso try to trick Big Mama into believing Leonardo is a statue so he could trespass into her auction house's impenetrable vault. After baiting Big Mama to sell the "statue" instead of personally own it, Hueso and Leonardo fall into the impenetrable vault. Big Mama and her employees quickly discover that she is being robbed and Big Mama attempts to assault Hueso, Piel, and Leonardo, but is defeated by Don Suave's mystic good-looks who is a fusion of Hueso and Piel.
Raph's Ride-Along[]
Big Mama has a meeting with fellow criminals, the Mud Dogs, so she can reap the money from their most recent robbery. She quickly realizes that the criminal the Mud Dogs knew as Heinous Green was actually Raphael and she demands that the Mud Dogs kill him.
Battle Nexus: New York[]
With her mystic orb given to her by Draxum in "Insane in the Mama Train" and the Shredder in her custody since "Many Unhappy Returns", Big Mama assembles her assets into one massive Battle Nexus event that doesn't occur in the Hidden City, but in New York City. She abducts all of the New York City citizens in the Mystic Orb sans the Ninja Turtles. She forces the Ninja Turtles to compete separately against her own Battle Nexus champions, eager to witness death. When the Ninja Turtles win their matches, she reneges her deal to free the New York City civilians. Draxum, April O'Neil, Foot Recruit, and Splinter are all able to escape the Mystic Orb and Big Mama fights them assisted by her Battle Nexus champion, the Shredder, who she gave the stage name "Shadow Fiend." She eventually loses the Mystic Ring controlling the Shredder to Foot Recruit and her Grand Nexus Hotel is toppled by Foot Recruit as a punishment.
Finale Part 4: Rise[]
Big Mama, though seriously injured, gives the Ninja Turtles the location of where the Foot Clan will steal Splinter's Hamato essence when they ask her, only due to her not wanting Splinter to be murdered.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie[]
Big Mama's corpse appears in the prologue skewered on a piece of debris as the Krang conquer the Earth.
Powers and Abilities[]
As a spider yōkai, Big Mama is capable of using her webs and her size with superhuman, strength, speed and stamina, which she uses in occasional fights with the Ninja Turtles. She also has the ability to shapeshift her body to look like a human.
