~ The Terror Mask upon seeing the Biggy Man in the 2010 remake. |
The Piggy Man, more commonly known as the Biggy Man, is the secondary antagonist of the Splatterhouse franchise. He is a large, humanoid creature with chainsaws for hands that guards the West mansion in the original game. In the 2010 remake, he is one of the prominent assistants of the Corrupted, lording over New York City in a timeline where Rick failed to stop Dr. Henry West. He is also deemed one of the most powerful and feared creatures sent by the Corrupted, to the point where even the Terror Mask was afraid of him.
Appearance[]
The Biggy Man is a large, mutated humanoid creature that has a pair of arm stumps, with a set of chainsaws in their place. He also covers his face with a potato sack.
He looks relatively the same in the 2010 remake, though the primary difference in his design is that he is overweight, has multiple growths covering his body, and has many missing pieces of skin.
Personality[]
The Biggy Man shows itself to be a merciless, animalistic creature that will stop at nothing to kill its prey. Despite this, the 2010 remake also elaborates the creature to be cunning and intelligent, as even Henry West had fallen victim to one of his traps. Another hint at its intelligence is that he is also the only creature that had named himself.
Biography[]
Splatterhouse (1988)[]
The Biggy Man acts as the boss of the game's third stage, which takes place outside of the West Mansion. Rick confronts him after crossing the bridge leading to the mansion, with the Biggy Man guarding the front door. During the fight he will attempt to slash Rick with his chainsaw hands, which can take a full hit point away for each hit.
Splatterhouse (2010)[]
The Biggy Man serves as the main antagonist of Phase 4, which takes place in New York City in a timeline where Dr. Henry West succeeds with his plan to resurrect Leonara. In this timeline, he rules over the city, and resides in an abandoned slaughterhouse, filled with fleshy walls and floors..
Throughout the level, Rick can hear a mysterious voice laughing at him throughout the hallways, and The Terror Mask also comments on how someone, who unbeknownst to him is the Biggy Man, is watching them through the building's cameras. When Rick finally meets up with the creature, the Terror Mask comments on how he recognizes him, and how the both of them are "screwed", implying that even the Terror Mask couldn't overcome him when they first met.
A fight then ensues between Rick and the Biggy Man, first taking a shotgun that he found in the slaugtherhouse and shooting at him, and knocking him onto his back. The lights then go out and the Biggy Man seemingly disappears, which causes Rick to fall onto the bottom floor where he finds Dr. West attempting to sacrifice Jennifer. West then disappears from the scene when the Biggy Man reappears on the floor, and Rick attempts to fight the creature again, who is much more powerful than their last encounter.
Eventually, Rick tears off one of the creature's chainsaw arms, and uses it against the monster, killing him. Rick takes the chainsaw arm with him, and uses it throughout the game's fifth phase.

Trivia[]
- Takashi Oda, the designer of many of the Splatterhouse characters, had stated that the primary inspiration for the Biggy Man, including the original name "Piggy Man", was the Bogeyman legend found in many different cultures.[1]
- Even though the character started off as a minor antagonist in the original game, serving as nothing more than a boss, the character had gained a lot of popularity amongst Splatterhouse fans, thanks in part to the character prominently appearing in boxart for the game, as well as being deemed by some to be its most diffcult boss, only rivaled by Jennifer as a monster in Stage 5. The character had become so popular that he was brought back in the 2010 remake, and played a much larger role.
- The name "Biggy Man" is a mistranslation of the character's original Japanese name "Piggy Man" (ピギーマン). Although the correct name was used in the game's PC Engine manual, the name "Biggy Man" was more prominently used in the strategy guide of the "TurboGrafx-16" version. The name was later popularized by the popular Splatterhouse fansite, West Mansion, to the point where "Biggy Man" became the monster's official name in the 2010 remake.
- During production of the 2010 remake, original concept art from Bottle Rocket depicted the character as an overweight human, rather than a humanoid monster. Several fans of the series took this redesign negatively, and Namco had to wind back development on the game as a result of this. Regardless, the final design still depicts the monster as overweight.
- The Japanese manual of the home port of the original Splatterhouse states that Dr. West had remodeled the Biggy Man after a giant, and had embeded the chainsaws into his arms.
