Oh really? Well. Don’t worry my dear. I won't steal him. Though he is rather a cutie.
~ Bijou to Nico Collard about George Stobbart.

Bijou Dubois is a supporting antagonist in the 2013 adventure video game Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse.

She is the recent widow of art-gallery owner Henri Dubois, the victim of an art insurance scam concocted by Bijou, Roman Medovsky and Wilfred Hobbs.

She is voiced by Roz Landor, who also voiced a quark in Doctor Who: The Fourth Doctor Adventures.

Personality[]

Bijou is an egotistical, melodramatic woman. Though she comes off as remorseful over Henri's death, she shows no remorse over her lengthy affair with Hobbs. She is Bohemian and a hedonist, and slightly delusional after Henri's death.

Physical appearance[]

Bijou is a late-middle aged Caucasian woman with long, ash-blonde hair and dark blue eyes. She wears heavy makeup, consisting of dark-blue eyeshadow, rouge and nail polish. She wears a lowcut tight pink dress, a fuchsia scarf and pink heels, with large gold earrings and a beaded necklace.

Biography[]

Background[]

Bijou and Henri Dubois met in the 1970s in their early twenties. It is suggested they frequented discos and shared a Bohemian interest in art. They lived together in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. Bijou eventually met Wilfred Hobbs, an art restorer from London, and had a long-standing affair with him. Bijou claims she was in love with both Wilfred and Henri, though Henri never knew about their affair. Bijou came into contact with Roman Medovsky, who became proprietor of La Maledicció.

Medovsky planned an insurance scam with Bijou and Hobbs, whereby Bijou would facilitate the paperwork to have the painting featured in an exhibition which would be stolen by Shears, Medovsky's henchman. In turn, Medovsky would receive a compensation payout.

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse[]

After Shears steals the painting, Henri gets in the way of it to try and stop him. However, Shears shoots and kills Henri and makes away with it. George Stobbart and Nico Collard discover Henri had a widow, Bijou, and come to her for questioning. George discovers Hector Laine, an art critic, "consoling" Bijou (in fact, trying to seduce her).

When George speaks with Bijou, she offers minimal input due to her grief. However, after using Bijou's grief-stricken stupor against her by pretending to be Henri and getting a key to a safe, George discovers Bijou's awareness of arranging the exhibition though claiming it was Henri who managed it in its entirety. It is also further discovered that Bijou had been having an illicit affair with Hobbs. When George uses this information against Bijou, she confesses the scam and her involvement in it, but declares Henri had never meant to have been killed. She assists George and Nico, telling them the real painting is hidden in London in Hobbs' studio.

Trivia[]

  • "Bijou" is French for jewel, which likely refers to Bijou's opulent and ornate taste.
    • It is also used in French to describe something as small and elegant, which also fits Bijou's personality and physique.
