William "Bill" Steingarten is the overarching antagonist in the Jurassic Park franchise.
He is the former CEO of Biosyn who employed Lewis Dodgson to work for him, with Dodgson deciding to steal embryos from InGen.
Novel Timeline[]
Steingarten was the CEO of Biosyn Corporation during the year 1989, the same year in which the first Jurassic Park book took place. Upon finding out about Lewis Dodgson's plot to steal embryos from InGen, Steingarten was ambitious to get it done, so he had his board of directors approve the plan.
Alas, even though the plan was approved, it never worked as Dodgson was unable to get the embryos from Biosyn as Dennis Nedry, the man Dodgson hired to steal the embryos, was killed by a Dilophosaurus during his time on Isla Nublar. Six years after this during the events of The Lost World novel, Steingarten was removed from his office and replaced with Jeff Rossiter.
Film Timeline[]
Steingarten was one of two personnel who created the company Biosyn Genetics alongside Jeff Rossiter in 1977, with Steingarten as its first CEO.
In 1993 during the events of the film Jurassic Park, Lewis Dodgson, an employee of Biosyn, planned to steal the embryos from Isla Nublar for his company, bribing Dennis Nedry into working for him as an inside job to get the embryos, but the plan was a catastrophic failure as Nedry was killed by a juvenile Dilophosaurus and thus, he was unable to give the embryos to Dodgson.
A year later, Steingarten was replaced by Jeff Rossiter as the next CEO, who held that position during the events of The Lost World movie and Jurassic Park III. Dodgson became CEO in 2013 and remained in this position until he was killed and eaten by a Dilophosaurus pack, the same fate that Nedry received 29 years prior.
Other Appearances[]
Jurassic Park: Raptors Hijack[]
Steingarten appears as a minor antagonist in the Raptors Hijink comic series, appearing in the second and third issues. In a flashback, it's revealed he hired the scientist Jeremiah Fischer to capture three Velociraptors named Alf, Betty, and Celia. During the series, he complains to John Hammond about the infiltration of Biosyn's headquarters in Cupertino, California, and the deaths of six of his guards, but Hammond tells him that it was an act of revenge for Dodgson hiring Nedry to steal the embryos. Later on, Steingarten has two of his agents try to kill Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, Ian Malcolm, and Robert Muldoon while hiding that Fischer is a Biosyn spy.
