~ Bill confronting King, the last Titan. |
Bill the Elder is a minor antagonist in the Disney Channel animated series The Owl House, serving as the main antagonist of the Season 2 episode "Edge of the World" and a minor character in the series finale, "Watching and Dreaming".
He is a witch from the far end of the Demon Realm who is the leader of the Titan Trappers, a tribe dedicated to hunting the Titans of the realm. He plots to free the Collector, the tribe's deity, from the Boiling Isles by sacrificing King, the last known living Titan, having mistaken the child for the tribe's true god, the Grand Huntsman.
He is voiced by Chris Houghton.
Appearance[]
Bill is a short, elderly witch with fair skin, unkempt grey hair, and yellow eyes, one with a blue iris and the other with a small tan pupil, as well as a single tooth. He has a blue sun emblem painted on his forehead.
For his Titan disguise, he wears a severed tan Titan skull with a black waxed, blue flamed candle on it. A dark fur ruff is wrapped around his neck and he wears a blue and gold tunic with a brown belt and bag, as well as black pants. He also wears cosmetics like a fake tail and long gloves resembling a Titan's limbs.
History[]
Bill's past is largely unknown, aside from the fact that he had likely helped the Collectors hunt and kill numerous Titans in the past, with the help of the Titan Trappers, all under the worship of "the Grand Huntsman", who apparently has been mistaken for being The Collector who has been sealed within the Boiling Isles, the remains of a dead Titan. They eventually began searching for the "Lost Son of the Boiling Isles", a Titan who could be able to contact the Collector.
Years later, Tarak, one of the trappers, saw a message from the demon King Clawthorne looking for his father. He responded by sending him a letter telling him to come to the trappers' base, which he did with the help of Luz Noceda and Hooty. As King interacted with Tarak and the other trappers, Luz and Hooty met Bill, who explained that he had been searching for the missing Titan his whole life, giving them a description that sounded just like King. After Luz and Hooty found out about the trappers' crimes, they escaped just as Bill realized that King was the Titan he had been looking for.
Bill and the trappers then organized a ritual for King, having him light the Collector's mirror in order to connect himself with him, before attempting to sacrifice him to free their deity. However, he was stopped by Luz and Hooty, who unmasked Bill and the trappers in front of him. Bill then accidentally admits he wants the glory of freeing the Collector to himself, causing the other trappers to become suspicious of him, something Luz and Hooty even call out, although this doesn't stop the trappers from trying to kill them. The trio manage to escape them and destroyed the portal connecting the two, leaving them trapped on their base for now.
At some point after the Day of Unity, Bill and Tarak, and presumably the other Titan Trappers, were turned into puppets by the Collector or his spies, implying they went to the Boiling Isles or the Collector visited them. The Collector, following advice from "Raine Whispers", would use Puppet-Bill to torment King within his nightmares by making him imagine Bill preparing to kill him. Thankfully, Luz would free King from his nightmare, and all of the puppets would eventually be freed after Emperor Belos was defeated. What happened to Bill after this is unknown. Although if he was turned back to normal, its possible his followers turn on him after finding out that he had been lying to them.
Trivia[]
- It's currently unknown if Bill and the Titan Trappers played a role in the death of the Boiling Isles Titan.
- While he indeed killed various Titans, is unknown if he was a major part of the Titan Genocide provoked by the Collectors.
- As demonstrated on "King's Tide", he didn't need to kill a Titan to free the Collector, so its unknown what would have happened if Bill ended up murdering King.
- Even though he is aware of the destructive powers of the Collector, he doesn't care about it and only wants to have his "recompense" for liberating him.
- He has claimed to have personally meet the Grand Huntsman and to have seen the last living Titan, but it is unknown if any of these claims are really true. But at the bare minimum, he must have seen a Titan to recognize King as one and somehow learned there is one last Titan left alive following the war, so it's possible he's at least partially telling the truth.
- While it's implied Bill mistook the Collector for the Grand Huntsman, this becomes somewhat complicated following the series finale. The Collector mentions that "those trapper jerks started acting weird", implying he actually knew them before being trapped and was friends with them before they apparently fell into evil. What truly happened is unknown.
