Billy Fletcher is one of the main protagonists of the long-running British soap opera Emmerdale.

He serves as an overarching antagonist of 2017, a supporting character in 2018, and one of the main protagonists in 2019-2025.

Billy is the son of Jessie Dingle and Evan Fletcher, the brother of Ellis Chapman and the father of Evan Fletcher II.

He is portrayed by Jay Kontzle.

Biography

Billy was born to Jessie Grant and Evan Fletcher. Evan died when Billy was young and Jessie went on to remarry Al Chapman, resulting in the birth of Billy's half-brother, Ellis Chapman. However, Billy and Al never got on as Al believed that Billy was trouble.

Much to Jessie's horror, Billy fell in with the wrong crowd and was desperate to impress his new friends. During a night out following their exams, a man named Riley was viciously beaten and left for dead by Billy and his friends. Under Joint Enterprise laws, Billy was sentenced to three years imprisonment for the assault along with his friends, Luke Dockley, Nathan Delfield, and Freddie Hart. Jessie was convinced of her son's innocence, although Ellis, whose relationship with Billy had fallen apart as Billy refused to stop his friends from bullying Ellis, was just as convinced of his brother's guilt.

In September 2018, Jessie revealed Billy would be granted early release from prison later in the year. In November 2018, Billy was hospitalised after a fight with another inmate, who was also hospitalised. Billy is released in December and reunited with Aaron Dingle, following a feud with Billy alongside Jason during his time in prison. It's revealed that Billy was bullied by Jason prior to joining his gang in prison before Aaron's time as Jason's victim began. Billy and Aaron would later team up during Billy's journey to earn money by defeating Ross Barton in a bare-knuckle fight, alongside John Sugden and Mackenzie Boyd.

Personality

Billy's life hasn't been the easiest and his past as a career criminal doesn't reflect on his true nature. Billy is a good man, willing to fight in order to provide for his family. He risks his life in a run of bare-knuckle fights to earn enough money for his family, including his sick son, Evan Fletcher. However, once Billy's family is danger, he becomes a danger to anyone wishing to cause problems, such as fighting Max Garrick and beating him to pulp in order to protect his mother and Marlon Dingle.
