Billy Rotner is a minor antagonist in Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School. He is a friend of Rodrick Heffley's who once tried to steal a pack of Sour Gummy Worms, but failed. He was later imprisoned and forced to do community service.

History[]

Past[]

When he was a child, Billy's mother gave a bag of Sour Gummy Worms to Billy and his unnamed brother to share amongst themselves. Billy's brother, however, at all of the Gummy Worms for himself, causing the young Billy to cry.

Many years after this, Billy became affiliated with Rodrick Heffley, and he often visited Rodrick's basement when Rodrick's band was practicing. Still feeling betrayed by his brother, Billy tried to steal Sour Gummy Worms from a gas station to make up for his childhood "trauma". His plan failed, and he was quickly arrested by a police officer. At some point, Billy acquired a tube on Thin Mints, and it is believed that he stole them.

Old School[]

Billy was sentenced to community service, and he had to help with the park clean-up project. During the project, Greg Heffley left to take a break, as he felt that the Girl Scouts who were supervising the project were working him too hard. Unbeknownst to him, Greg was followed by Billy, as well as a small child named Frew. Greg told Billy to go back to the park, but Billy told Greg that he was planning to escape the police's custody. He then explained his backstory of having his brother steal his Gummy Worms. When Frew also explained his backstory, Greg decided that he'd rather go back to cleaning the park than listen to the others wine. However, they were spotted by a Girl Scout, and the three of them ran away.

When they were at a good distance from the Girl Scouts, the trio decided to take a breather. Billy got a pack of Thin Mints out of his jumpsuit and shared them with the group. Billy told Greg and Frew that they should remove their clothes so they couldn't be tracked by their scents. Greg, realizing that he shouldn't be taking advice from someone as incompetent as Billy, said that they should split up. Frew opposed the idea and said the trio should stay together and go on wild adventures. Billy and Frew started arguing about who should get the movie rights to their story, but their argument was cut short by the arrival of the Girl Scouts. Greg, not wanting to face the consequences, blamed the entire incident on Billy, likely adding more hours to his sentence.

The following week, Billy started his next Community Service job, which was to clean the highway. Greg was on the highway in a broken down car, and had to hide from Billy, fearing that Billy would seek revenge for what happened at the park. Billy and his fellow Community Service workers stopped at Greg's car to have lunch. Ironically, their lunch break left the highway dirtier then when they started, unknownwingly and inadvertently getting back at Greg for ratting him out.
