~ Billy the Kid introducing the Hole-in-the-Ground gang to the citizens of Springfield. |
Henry McCarty, also known by his pseudonym William H. Bonney or his famous alias Billy the Kid, is the main antagonist of The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror XIII segment "The Fright to Creep and Scare Harms".
He was a famous outlaw from the Wild West who was well known for killing at least 21 people, one per year of his life, and his death in 1881. In the segment, he and his posse, the Hole-in-the-Ground gang, rose out of their graves after Lisa banned the use of guns to respect Billy's epitaph, which was the dream of a gun-free world, causing havoc across Springfield. However, thanks to Homer going back in time to stop the gun ban, he and the other Springfield citizens shoot their graves down, leading to the zombies, including Billy the Kid, rising up and retreating into the distance.
Appearance[]
Billy the Kid is an emaciated man with slightly melted skin and a missing nose. He also wears a cowboy outfit, similiar to the real Billy the Kid's outfit when he was alive.
Personality[]
In the segment, Billy the Kid is depicted as a fearless outlaw who loves to force people into playing music for him, as seen when he forces the Simpsons to play a song and even dance for him and his gang at gun point.
Biography[]
Billy the Kid is first mentioned when Lisa and Bart were mourning the death of their goldfish Goldie, seeing his grave nearby. As Lisa reads his grave, she notices a message covered by dirt, which reveals his epitaph about having a world without guns. Lisa then decides to ban guns from Springfield in order to make his dream posthumously come true. Unfortunately, the official announcement of guns being banned by Lisa causes the zombies, including Billy the Kid, to rise up from their graves and travel to Springfield, where Billy meets the citizens of Springfield during Quimby's speech. This worries Lisa, as she now encountered the now-undead William Bonney. William then tells her that he is mostly known as Billy the Kid and laughs evily, firing both of his dual pistols in the air and saying that the only guns are on his dead hands. Billy then introduces the citizens to the Hole-in-the-Ground gang, composed of himself, Jesse James, Frank James and Butch Cassidy, as well as Kaiser Wilhelm II.
The gang then cause a massive shootout in Moe's tavern, causing everybody to scream as the tavern is completely overwhelmed from the gunshots, also tossing Barney outside and pulling him back inside multiple times. The gang then force the Simpsons to play a song for them, with Homer playing the piano, Marge playing the violin and Bart and Lisa dancing to a Wild West song while the gang shoot bullets beneath them, in a similar manner to the humiliation used back in the Wild West when a stranger arrived in town. Eventually, Professor Frink creates a time machine for Homer to go back in time to before the gun ban was applied and stop the zombies. Homer then commands the citizens to shoot the graves down, leading to the zombies rising out of the graves and running away, not to be seen again. Lisa then realizes that the gang's appearance was due to her banning guns, not knowing that sometimes, guns are the answer.
