His first appearance proper is in the second issue, where he meets the cop Walter Booker in a park, sitting next to a beheaded cult member. Bishop knows Booker is suffering from cancer and proposes him to deliver his girlfriend Josephine in exchange of curing his cancer. Bishop also reveals to Booker he is mentioned in newspapers as he is concerned with police corruption. Bishop however assures he can fix things for him and leaves the park.

The next day, Bishop visits Sylvia Raines, the wife of reporter Dominic Raines, to talk about something secret. However, this is just a ruse to murder Sylvia. After gruesomely doing so, he rips the baby she was waiting off her belly.

Then Bishop sends two of his men to remind Booker he has three days to deliver Josephine. He then goes to Luccarelli’s home and waits for him to wake up and has him killed.

Having put Raines in the guest room, he goes out to see Booker, realizes he respected his promise, and asks him to give Josephine to him. Booker demands to have the cure. Bishop promises him he will uphold his end of the bargain. Having a change of heart, Booker draws a gun and shoots Bishop’s men, much to his surprise. Enraged, Bishop grabs Booker’s arm, but the latter manages to free himself by cutting off Bishop’s arm with a stone dagger. Surprised, Bishop flees underground.

Going near the hole, he prays to his gods, causing him to transform himself into a Lovecraftian creature before Booker arrives, and both fight against each other. Bishop taunts him that he cannot be killed, but Booker tells him it is not his intention, rips off his eyes, and tosses him in the hole.

In fact, Booker knows Bishop since WWll in Romania. Bishop, who was disguised as a Nazi soldier, captured Josephine and imprisoned her, with the intention to sacrifice her. About to do so, Walter rescued her by killing Bishop’s men. A furious Bishop grabbed him to eat his lungs but is stabbed by Josephine and both escaped.

However, Bishop is summoned by his cult followers in the corpse of Raines’s baby but realizes with horror that he was blinded. This instantly cuts away his connection with his gods.

Time goes on and Bishop becomes the leader of a method church in Los Angeles and took the name of Hansel. In fact, his group lures in young woman and films them while violently butchering them before selling the snuff film and continues to sacrifice people for Bishop’ gods. Bishop eventually learns Josephine’s presence by a minion who was informed by another one who saw Josephine and the actor Miles.

Later, a photo of Josephine is picked in the corpse of Suzy Scream, one of the many women Bishop lured in his cult, and brought to him. However, the minion has shoot Suzie in the head. Enraged that Suzy wasn’t brought to him before being killed, Bishop violently murders the minion for “standing in the way of his masters”. He then requests to have Suzy’s body brought to the altar room basement and not be disturbed. He uses Suzy’s body to make a prayer for his gods during hours.

Taking his own cult with him, he heads to Josephine’s house. He orders his men to not hurt her because he will take care of her. One of Bishop’s men finds her, much to Bishop satisfaction. In Josephine’s Hall, Bishop rejoices about her capture and asks her where his eyes are. Unbeknownst to him, Josephine has hypnotized the man who captured. The man pours gasoline over his arm, ignites and runs to Bishop, spreading the fire on him. Soon, the whole house is on fire and Bishop is seemingly burned alive.

After this incident, Josephine goes to visit a certain Joseph Ravencroft, who reveals that Bishop also lived in the Far West as a wealthy man under the name of McVicar. McVicar took him and his mother to an expedition. Ravencroft eventually suspected something about McVicar when he saw him yelling at his men that they would lose the trail and when he saw two burros gruesomely murdered. Ravencroft sneaked into McVicar and discovered the book used for prayer. McVicar spots him, but before he can kill him, Ravencroft stabs him and runs away.

Bishop eventually realized what Ganix did and stabs him to provoke Josephine. This results in getting hit by an arrow of Josephine.

One night, Bishop is awakened by Josephine who just kissed Nicolas Lash, her current lover. Sensing her presence, he realizes she has his eyes. While looking for her, a cult member reports him that two cult members were killed four days ago. To avoid being uncovered, Bishop orders the elimination of all the remaining cult members.

Then he remembers his past: first, at San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake, when he appeared and brutally killed a victim begging for his help, then went on a murder spree to appease his gods. He then interacted with many people and seduced many women to sire children to sacrifice to his gods. WWI occurred, with Bishop witnessing how people can be cruel and rejoicing over the bloodshed. When the war was over, Bishop wandered around the globe in search of violent places until WWII, where he meets Josephine and was about to sacrifice her for the gods until she was rescued by Booker.

Back in the present, Bishop orders his men to get ready for the war between her and Josephine. He then goes to an asylum to find Lance, an ex-lover of Josephine. He takes him to a remote place in a forest for sacrifice, then he sees Lash who just stumbled upon him and the cult. Bishop orders his men to seize him.

Taking Lash and Lance in a graveyard, he questions Lash about Josephine’s whereabouts, to no avail. He mocks Lash by telling Josephine was using her, ties him to a tree, and has one minion torture him to talk. Lash finally cracks. Bishop goes to Josephine’s location, kills her friend Otto, and has her shot as well. Much to his joy, he finds his eyes and puts these back on him, thus recovering the sight.

Having brought Josephine to the graveyard, he forces her to watch Lash being sliced by Bishop. After a moment, he spitefully delivers the coup de grace, much to Josephine’s despair. Bishop then turns his attention to the woman, gloating on how much his gods will love to endlessly torment her. Josephine answers that she does not understand people like him and that Otto explains her he doesn’t understand her either. Bishop brushes that off but is unexpectedly kissed by Josephine. To his horror, Bishop realizes Josephine cursed him by forcing him to feel the memories of her dead victims. Weakened, Bishop still tries to stab Josephine. However, Lash manages to free himself and stabs Bishop in the heart. Lance also manages to get free and throws himself in the well, which serves as the portal for the other world, taking Bishop and Lash with him. The gods finds Bishop coming to them and tears him into piece for his failure.
