~ Biyu telling Suki she doesn't care about her fellow prisoners, but to be comfortable in the Boiling Rock |
Biyu is a minor antagonist in Avatar: The Last Airbender, serving as the main antagonist of the graphic novel Suki, Alone. She's a Earth kingdom thief who meets Suki during her time in the Boiling Rock prison.
History[]
Biyu is a famous Earth Kingdom theft who also dated a Fire Nation soldier, much to to the dismay of the mother of said soldier, who separated them by having Biyu arrested and sent to the Boiling Rock prison.
One day, in the prison cafeteria, Biyu complained about the disgusting prison slop they were fed, and soon was approached by Suki, who introduced herself but Biyu wasn't interested in knowing her unless she had something edible to offer, to which Suki replied she might but asked for introductions first, Biyu introduced herself and asked the younger prisoner how she ended in the Boiling Rock, and Suki replied she was the leader of the Kyoshi Warriors, and that they were defeated and imprisoned by Princess Azula, this impressed Biyu as she was sent by an angry Fire Nation general for dating her son, after the introdutions, Suki showed her some legumes she found in her cell, explaining they're rich on nutrients and will help keep her healthy, to which Biyu commented that the prison food not only was disgusting but also wasn't enough to keep a healthy body and that was how the Fire Nation kept its prisoners demoralized.
This gave Suki an idea, and the two prisoners went to the courtyard where they found more legumes and hidden from the guards, Biyu wanted to split them for the two to have a meal, but Suki wanted to save seeds to cultivate a garden to have a food supply to share with the other prisoners, but Biyu wasn't interested in helping the others and Suki replied that if they had better food, they might have a chance to stand up against the Fire Nation and maybe to escape from the prison, and reluctantly Biyu agreed.
Weeks later, they managed to have a secret garden in the prison through an hidden entrance in the laundry room, and when the Warden went to a surprise inspection, Suki and Biyu were aided by other prisoners to hide from the warden, and after he left, Biyu expressed her surprise at the other prisoners risking themselves to help them, as she usually only looked for herself, and Suki replied that it wasn't about advantages but to work together to escape.
However, when one of the prisoners were discovered eating legumes by the guards, it soon escalated into a fight in the cafeteria between the guards and the prisoners, and Biyu became scared and fled while Suki stayed to help the other prisoners, however they were soon forced to surrender and, fearing for her safety, Biyu told the Warden about Suki's plan and secret garden, and the Warden rewarded her betrayal by giving her privilges as a better uniform, food and a special room.
Two weeks later, she was confronted by an angry Suki (who was just released from solitary confinement in a cramped cell), as she was told by the Warden and the other prisoners about her betrayal and privileges, but Biyu didn't deny it as she had to survive and told Suki that wasn't their plan, but hers, and that she only went with it as she had food but now was friends with the guards and the Warden, and when asked by Suki if she didn't have any loyalty to anyone in the prison, Biyu replied that was the difference between them, Suki needed to be part to a community but she didn't, as she only cared about spending her sentence in the most comfortable manner and mockingly asked Suki if she believed her to be her friend or like one of her Kyoshi Warrior sisters, and Suki enraged grabbed Biyu and threatened to throw her off the railing but Biyu desperately begged her for forgiveness and Suki violently threw her back to the bridge, and Biyu asked if she only wanted to scare her and called her coward.
However, sometime later Suki is rescued from the prison by Sokka and Zuko, and it's unknown what happened to Biyu later, but it can be assumed she spent the rest of her life in the prison.
