Bjorn is a major antagonist in the anime and manga series Vinland Saga. He was Askeladd's most trusted ally, serving as the second-in-command of his band of Vikings.
He is voiced by Hiroki Yasumoto in Japanese. In English, he is voiced by Andrew Love in the Sentai Dub, and Ray Chase in the VSI Dub.
Appearance[]
Bjorn is a tall and muscular man with shoulder-length brown hair and a long beard. He is most often seen wearing a silver Viking helmet, a beige coat adorned with brown linings, a belt around his waist and a long sleeve black shirt.
Personality[]
As the second-in-command of Askeladd's band, he is extremely loyal to him and views him as his best and only true friend. He would go as far as to side with Askeladd even when the rest of his band had turned against him as they were being chased by Thorkell. Before that, he was also a highly respected member within the group. In his final moments, he still displayed a strong fighting spirit and challenged Askeladd to a duel, even while knowing that he stood no chance against him, as he was covered with injuries.
Abilities[]
- Berserk Mode: Bjorn is able to activate his full strength and fighting potential by consuming a berserker mushroom. This has been shown to increase his pain tolerance, durability, strength and fighting prowess, allowing him to continue fighting even when having received multiple injuries. In his berserk mode, he doesn’t seem to be able distinguish his allies from his enemies.
He was once able to take down 10 of his former allies in order to defend Canute, although he received severe injuries across his body. However, he was still easily defeated by Thors, with him not being able to land a single blow on him in their duel. Even without the berserker mushroom, he is shown to have possessed highly impressive stamina, as even after a deep and painful stab in the guts by Atli, he still had enough strength to challenge Askeladd to a duel, though this fight would be where he finally met his end.

- "Bjorn" is a word of Swedish and Norse origin, meaning "bear", an apt name for one with such a violent nature.
