Aw, s**t, I must have mixed up the bags. My fault, Alan. Damn, Marshall gonna be pissed off on me on that one.
~ Doug realizing his mistake, also foreshadowing the third film’s events.

Douglas, better known by the Wolfpack as the Black Doug or the Other Doug to not get mistaken, is the secondary antagonist of The Hangover trilogy.

He was played by Mike Epps, who also portrayed Satin Struthers in the 2012 remake of Sparkle.

History[]

The Hangover[]

In The Hangover, Black Doug is introduced as a supporting, but pivotal character. He is first seen when Leslie Chow confronts the Wolfpack over his missing $80,000 they stole from him. Leslie threatens them with Doug’s life to return him the money by dawn tomorrow. Doug’s face however, was concealed with a bag, leaving the Wolfpack unaware of his true identity.

After a night of gambling to recover the money, the Wolfpack meet Leslie Chow at Big Rock in Mojave desert, where after paying the ransom, the gang realize the Doug they paid for was not their friend. Black Doug complained to Alan over getting him mixed up in his problems, causing Alan to remember Black Doug as the dealer who sold him the roofies.

Stu demands to know where their Doug is, to which Black Doug reveals his name is Doug too. Stu demands Leslie take back Black Doug and return the $80,000, but Leslie drives off with the money, leaving the Wolfpack behind. The three decide to give Black Doug a ride back to Las Vegas. While they wait on Phil to finish his phone call, Stu inquired as to how Black Doug ended up in Chow’s captivity. Black Doug explained how he had met up with the Wolfpack the other night at the Bellagio where together with Chow, the group played craps together, which was why Chow believed Black Doug to be their friend.

Black Doug was confused as to why the group did not remember, to which Stu revealed how Black Doug accidentally sold Alan roofies instead of ecstasy the night they met. Black Doug realized he must have mixed up the bags and apologized to Alan, showing concern over how his boss Marshall would react when he finds out about Black Doug’s slip up. Black Doug involuntarily gives Stu the final clue to their Doug’s whereabouts when he comments how a person who takes roofies is more likely to find themselves on the ground instead of the roof. Stu realizes that their Doug was in fact left on the roof of their hotel as a prank similar to one they made on him in their childhood. The pack swiftly returned to their hotel with Black Doug in tow, where he was presumably dropped off.

The Hangover Part III[]

Four years after the events of The Hangover, Black Doug returns as the secondary antagonist of the film. Unlike before, where he was friendly and easy going towards the Wolfpack, Black Doug is shown to be more serious and hostile towards his former saviors, as the events of the first movie seemed to have initiated a chain of events involving Leslie Chow, which were inadvertently caused by Black Doug selling Alan roofies. Black Doug kidnaps the Wolfpack while they made their way to Arizona, holding them at gunpoint and threatening them to stop calling him Black Doug. Black Doug brings the Wolfpack to Marshall who explained to them how Leslie Chow had stolen $21 million worth of gold from him in Las Vegas four years ago and had gone off the grid after escaping prison.

Marshall demands answers to Chow’s whereabouts as Alan had stayed in contact with Chow after he was arrested during The Hangover Part II. Alan swears he doesn’t know Chow’s location as they haven’t been in contact for months.

Marshall takes Doug Billing hostage and orders the rest of the pack to find and bring Leslie Chow to him, as well as the gold he stole from him, in three days.

By some miracle the boys managed to track down Chow who tricked them into helping Chow steal the remaining gold from Marshall. Marshall scolds the foolish men and Black Doug chuckles bitterly, declaring someone needed to pay for the Wolfpack’s failure to which Marshall’s response was to shoot him, killing Black Doug, as punishment for letting the chain of events happen in the first place.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being a minor antagonist in the first film, Black Doug selling Alan the roofies is what caused the whole series to happen.
