The Black Mouth is eating all our fish! The Black Mouth is eating all of our fish!
~ The villagers prophecy warning about the threat of the Black Mouth, to Lars.
WARNING!!! WARNING!!! OBSTACLE AHEAD! FULL SPEED AHEAD! RECOMMEND EVASIVE MANEUVER?!
~ The Black Mouth's onboard bridge computer, noticing the massive rock ahead, while chasing after Lars, intent on killing him.

The Black Mouth is the main antagonist of the 2001 German animated film The Little Polar Bear. Its voice actor for the Black Mouth's onboard bridge computer console voice in English were voiced by an unknown voice actor.

Personality[]

The Black Mouth is a huge, menacing, unmanned fishing boat that stealthily prowls the Arctic Ocean, swallowing any animal in its path. Its dark presence spreads fear among the animals and the Inuit people.

Despite lacking any emotion whatsoever, the Black Mouth has shown to be both ruthless, greedy, remorseless, arrogant, and relentless.

Basis[]

The Black Mouth's design seems to be a varying mix of different types of real life oil tanker ships.

Biography[]

Origins[]

Very little is known about who exactly designed and built the Black Mouth, as the Black Mouth's Creators were never even mentioned nor shown. What is known (and up for speculation) is that the Black Mouth was most likely created to scoop up fish and deliver them to its intended destination, before it somehow malfunctioned, somehow achieving sentience, went rogue, and presumably turned on and quite possibly killed its own creators.

Even Lena's own Inuit tribe greatly feared the Black Mouth ever since it first started showing up and began stealing fish, leaving both the Inuit people and the animals that depend on the fish for food, with almost nothing.

The Little Polar Bear[]

When Lars, the friendly little polar bear, makes friends with Robby the seal and shares fish with the inhabitants to help them get along, the animals become worried when their food supply gets cut off.

When Lars one day gets separated from his family and friends, the iceberg that he's trapped on gets almost trampled by a massive, menacing, and mysterious black ship, which Lars tries to plea for help but receives no answer as the mysterious ship sails by.

The mysterious black ship is later seen again on Lars journey home while on the back of an kindhearted Orca. The two sail past the menacing ship while completely unaware that the ship is actually unmanned, and is devouring any fish in it's path.

After returning home, Lars then decides to go into the human settlement with Robby despite his friends' warnings that it is dangerous. He comes across Lena, an kind and gentle Inuit girl, who during her village's ceremony, she and her family warns Lars about the Black Mouth, a giant metal monster devouring all the fish in the ocean and the culprit behind the food scarcity.

Lars is then later returned by Lena to his home and rushes to warn the other animals even though nobody, including his parents (who at first didn't trust humans), believe him, but it was already too late. The Black Mouth finally arrives at the North Pole, and successfully breaks through the ice and captures all the animals, including Robby, as well as the other three polar bears Brutus, Bert, and Boris.

Remembering what the villagers told him about the Black Mouth, Lars then decides to take down the Black Mouth by luring it towards a huge rock much to his parents' warnings, to which Lars ignores. Lars then dives underwater, right in front of the giant ship's sensor eye, which snaps awake, as it locks onto him. The evil robot then suddenly gives chase and despite its onboard computer warning to steer clear of the massive rock, the Black Mouth refuses to abandon it's pursuit.

After a lengthy chase, with Lars starting to get tired and running out of air, the Black Mouth finally catches him, but Lars's friends Greta and the penguin Caruso arrive. Caruso then distracts the evil robot long enough for Greta to swim into the metal monster's jaws, in order to save Lars. Greta with Lars then attempts to swim out of the Black Mouth's jaws, but suddenly notices that the jaws are starting to close. Caruso then leaps into actions and forcibly holds the Black Mouth's jaws open long enough for Greta and Lars to escape. The Black Mouth, now enraged, foolishly increases its speed in a final attempt to try and capture the three of them. The Black Mouth tries to turn, but it suddenly runs aground on jagged rocks. The Black Mouth then capsizes and sinks, with the water frying its systems, and causing it to land on the bottom of the ocean now finally dead, freeing all the animals.
