Villain Overview

I DID THINGS.
~ Black Noir revealing himself to Homelander and Billy Butcher.

Black Noir is the main antagonist of the adult comic series The Boys and a supporting antagonist in the Amazon Prime TV adaptation of the same name. In the comics, he is a clone of Homelander that was created by the Nazis and Vought-American to keep an eye on Homelander to make sure that he did not go insane and to kill him if he did. His identity has yet to be revealed in the TV series.

While The Seven are a corrupt group of false heroes, they (for the most part) possess at least basic morals. Black Noir is the exception, being an unfeeling and soulless monster.

In the TV series, he is portrayed by Nathan Mitchell.

Biography

Origins

Black Noir is the clone of The Homelander, and was created by Vought-American with refined Compound-V. Vought created him as a contingency plan in order to ensure that Homelander never oversteps his bounds, and kill him if he does. Black Noir then became a major member of the Seven, with no one on the team knowing who he was, or where he came from. He had several enemies, such as Coagula, Sexface, and an unnamed naked girl who is a spoof of Poison Ivy.

Eventually, Black Noir went insane due to not being able to complete the mission, and being forced to reside and interact with his target. Black Noir decided to wear the Homelander's costume, and commit vast atrocities, such as cannibalizing children, murdering women, and raped Billy Butcher's wife, Becky.

Comics

Black Noir is first seen being involved in Homelander's sexual assault of Starlight, and later showed no reaction when Starlight had to sexually perform on him. He doesn't appear or speak a lot due to the fact that he was mute for the majority of the comic. However, he managed to find Hughie at some point and was responsible for sexually assaulting him in a sewer. Later on, Black Noir was stopped by Queen Maeve from forcing Starlight to wear her new and revealing costume.

He was also revealed to be responsible for the rape and death of Butcher's wife, explaining that he disguised himself as Homelander due to him going crazy because he wasn't able to complete his goal. In addition, Black Noir sent the Boys photos of him committing the atrocities to incriminate Homelander, and give Vought-American to kill him. Homelander tries killing Black Noir but ends up failing as Black Noir kills him by breaking his jaw and opening his face. He was later brutally shot to death by the Military and The Butcher, and killed when Billy ripped a chunk of his brain out after ripping his skull with his crowbar.

TV Series

Black Noir is a feared member of The Seven, often used for his expert combat skills and extraordinary strength. Black Noir is one of the only people that has come face to face with The Female and lived. In The Female of the Species he was able to fight on par with The Female, perhaps only due to her weakened state. Furthermore, he is able to strike fear into the hearts of the public, putting Frenchie and Cherie into a panic after noticing him outside of their flat.

In his first appearance in the second season, he violently murders the Supe terrorist Naqib and several others present. He is shown displaying a dark sense of humor when he walks up to a child carrying Naqib's head, then picking up a plush rabbit and toying with it. He is then seen with The Seven as they hunt down The Boys and briefly gasps upon the sight of the dead whale washed up. After the news of compound V was revealed to the public, Black Noir is seen sitting against the wall, sobbing at the notion of Compound V. However, not long afterwards he takes it upon himself to hunt down Billy Butcher by intimidating Anika.

Once spotting Butcher near Becca's home, Noir immediately hunts him down and tracks him all the way to Judy's house where he gets tricked into breaking in her home only to be blown up by a bomb implanted by Butcher, Hughie and Marvin. Though severly burnt, Noir exhibits no sign of pain quickly attacks the three of them. However, Butcher warns him that if he kills all three of them, infromation regarding Homelander and his illegitimate son will be leaked to the media and the public. Noir proceeds to choke Butcher against the wall only to receive a phone call from Stan Edgar who negotiates a deal to have Noir spare Butcher, Hughie and Marvin's life in edxchange for Butcher keeping the secret. After the deal's been made, Black Noir lets go of Butcher and leaves the scene.

~ Black Noir's note to Anika to find Billy Butcher for him.

Trivia

  • He is a parody of Batman.
    • His costume design also brings to mind Snake Eyes.
    • He may also be a parody of Deadpool in the series as they both share the same weaponry and costume resemblance.
    • On a side note, Deadpool is extremely talkative while Black Noir is the complete opposite.
    • He is also a parody of Bizarro, Superboy, Cyborg Superman, and Superman Zero (all of whom were clones of Superman), like how Black Noir is a clone of Homelander.
  • Black Noir was not responsible for raping Billy's wife in the Amazon series as it is hinted and then confirmed by Becca (Butcher's wife who is still alive in the TV series) that it was Homelander completely.
  • He appeared in a bonus episode of DEATH BATTLE, as a guest commentator and is there to intimidate Wiz and Boomstick. He strangles Wiz for suggesting Vought is lying about Homelander being a hero.
  • There are several implications in the series that hints that Black Noir is indeed Homelander's clone. However, this has yet to be confirmed. The following hints are:
    • His incredible withstanding and surviving of Naqib's explosion implies he is a Homelander clone like in the comics.
    • Also, despite getting slightly wounded while fighting The Female, he easily overpowers her.
    • When finding out that he wasn't born with powers and instead was given powers by Vought using Compound V, Black Noir broke down in tears which hints at his only purpose in life and by Vought is to kill Homelander in case he goes out of control.
    • Black Noir also has roughly the same height, build and stature as Homelander.
    • Many have speculated that Black Noir may still be a clone of Homelander albeit a different power than him. As in, Homelander is indestructible and whereas Black Noir has regenerative healing factor.
    • On a side note, The Boys series' official twitter page posted a picture of The Seven members in various poses. However, suspiciously both Homelander and Black Noir are standing side-by-side with the same exact pose as one another, while each of the other Seven members have their own individual poses.
